General Information:
The International Student and Scholar Services team (ISSS) in the Center for Global Engagement (CGE) seeks six (6) undergraduate students to serve as our LINKer team and assist ISSS with welcoming new international students to JMU running a robust orientation and advising on programming for the international student community for the 2026-27 year. ISSS is looking for students who are globally-minded thoughtful and who want to meet and engage with international students!
LINKers will attend training towards the end of the Spring 2026 semester and over the summer virtually welcome and help prepare and excite students for their JMU ahead. LINKers will attend a brief training in mid-August and then welcome new international students to campus for a 3-day orientation and guide them through their first few days at JMU. Throughout the semester LINKers will create run and/or promote various social events and assist with other ISSS programming for the international student community. A select few LINKers will be asked to assist with a smaller orientation in mid-January 2027.

Duties and Responsibilities:
-Attend in-person training in late Spring 2026
-Attend 2 online Zoom sessions over the summer
-Attend a 2-day orientation training in August
-During Fall & Spring semester ISSS orientations:
--Help facilitate group discussion guide and lead groups of students to different locations (including move-in and shopping trips) and help answer general questions and concerns.
--Assist with orientation sessions - such as Immigration Health Insurance and Being Successful - by sharing your perspectives and experiences as they pertain to these issues.
--Debrief and provide feedback on your orientation experiences with ISSS staff
-Attend bi-weekly in-person meetings with ISSS staff to create programming (3-4 events per semester) from brainstorming marketing and event logistics
-Facilitate and run events for the international student community as well as assist ISSS staff with other ISSS programs throughout the year
Qualifications:
To be considered candidates must:
-Have completed at least 2 semesters at JMU;
-Be in good standing: academic (2.5 cumulative GPA min.) and immigration if applicable;
-Commit to two (2) semesters on the LINKer team beginning with a training towards the end of the Spring 2026 term a few virtual meetings over the summer returning to campus mid-August 2026 for orientation and returning to campus mid-January 2027 for orientation;
-Be available on specific dates (such as late April/early May training arriving early on campus on August 10 2026 and in mid-January 2027 to prepare for the international orientation program and related events/programs)

Conditions of Employment:
Students must be degree-seeking students enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
