Job Summary

Job Summary:

The Respiratory Care Practitioner provides respiratory care to neonate through adolescent patients in the NICU Level III setting. This role requires flexibility in shift assignments primarily working nights and proficiency in intubating neonates. The practitioner will operate at the top of their license managing ventilators administering medications and performing airway management procedures.

Responsibilities:

- Manage Drager VN 500 Hamilton G5 & T1 ventilators.
- Operate 3100A oscillator.
- Perform direct intubation and extubation.
- Assist with intubations.
- Place and suction nasal and oral airways.
- Perform oropharyngeal suctioning.
- Conduct pulmonary hygiene and sputum specimen collection.
- Perform tracheostomy suctioning.
- Administer medications including Albuterol Atrovent Inhaled Flolan Inhaled steroids Lidocaine Mucomyst Nitric Oxide (iNO) Pulmicort Racemic epinephrine Spiriva and Terbutaline Sulfate.
- Set up aerosol masks and trach collars.
- Utilize medihalers metered dose inhalers nebulizers (cold hand-held heated T-piece).
- Manage BiPAP Flow-by CPAP high-frequency oscillators and IMV (intermittent Mandatory Ventilation).
- Troubleshoot high-pressure alarms.
- Wean patients from mechanical ventilation.
- Assist in high-risk deliveries.
- Perform bivent and bubble CPAP.
- Conduct capillary and umbilical blood gases.
- Perform neonatal transports (inter-departmental).
- Manage pressure/volume ventilators.
- Interpret ABG results.
- Perform basic EKG and chest physiotherapy.
- Draw arterial blood gases.
- Document patient care in EPIC.
Required Skills & Certifications:

- 5 years of experience.
- BLS PALS NRP certifications.
- RRT certification.
- CA State Licensure.
- Intubation certification.
- Experience in ER NICU Peds Critical Care and Peds Transports.
- Proficiency in airway management devices/suctioning.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- None specified.
Special Considerations:

- Must be able to intubate neonates.
Scheduling:
- 3x12 night shifts.
- Flexibility in shift assignments is required with potential for some day shifts.
