Job Summary:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing direct patient care functions under the supervision of a registered nurse and performing clerical communication and other related duties to facilitate the efficient functioning of Department services. All duties are performed in collaboration with team members adhering to standards outlined in the competency-based/evaluation tool. The CNA participates in and accepts responsibility for functions delegated to the team demonstrating a commitment to quality service for patients the public and co-workers.

Responsibilities:
- Assists patients in routine activities of daily living including range of motion exercises ambulation positioning skin care linen distribution bed changes feeding meal delivery hygiene care (toileting incontinent care oral and personal hygiene).
- Assists the patient care team in collecting patient data and specimens including urine stool and sputum specimens.
- Obtains and records health data weights vital signs (including pulse oximetry) pain assessments and I&O.
- Communicates patient status and reports changes in patient condition to licensed professionals.
- Assists the patient care team by performing and explaining designated patient care procedures such as incentive spirometry and patient transport.
- Prepares for diagnostic tests and assists rehab therapists.
- Performs pulse oximetry/oxygen setup in oxygen therapy.
- Prepares rooms with necessary supplies and provides post-mortem care.
- Assists with patient admissions and discharges.
- Assists nurses in emergency situations.
- Maintains and cleans equipment.
- Performs oral and nasopharyngeal suctioning.
- Performs blood sugar finger sticks.
- Removes IV catheters per licensed nurse instruction.
- Performs EKGs (department-specific responsibility).
- Answers unit phones and directs calls accordingly.
- Performs data entry into electronic medical database systems and documents patient care and related duties appropriately.
- Performs selected patient registration activities.
- Coordinates equipment/supply needs and notifies the appropriate department of equipment malfunctions.
- Performs other related duties (clerical technical) as assigned.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- CNA license.
- AHA BLS Provider CPR certification.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Not specified.

- No floating between units.
- No on-call requirements.
- No weekend requirements.
- No block schedules required.
- 48-hour shifts are not approved.
