Job Overview

Tekberry is seeking a Controls Technician III to support automation and controls implementation for our client a global leader in advanced materials and manufacturing technologies. This role supports the design integration and implementation of controls-based solutions for next-generation manufacturing equipment used in optical fiber and cable production processes.

The technician will work closely with controls engineers and engineering project teams to integrate field devices implement control logic and support automation system development for advanced manufacturing equipment platforms.

This position requires strong experience in PLC-based automation systems controls integration and manufacturing equipment support within an engineering project environment.

Key Responsibilities

Controls Integration & Automation Support

Integrate field devices for flow control material handling metering motion control temperature control and associated safety systems
Support implementation of control sequence logic including time-based and event-based control strategies
Assist in configuring fail-safe states and equipment recovery sequences within automation systems
Implement specified field devices compatible with system design packages and site standards
Support PID control loop tuning and system optimization

Engineering Project Support

Work closely with controls engineers and engineering teams to support automation system design and implementation
Participate in engineering project teams responsible for delivering automation and process machine systems
Assist with solving complex automation problems and resolving project-related technical issues
Support development and deployment of defined control architectures and system integration strategies
Interface with external machine builders and system integrators to support project deliverables

System Implementation & Startup

Participate in equipment fabrication support off-line integration testing and validation activities
Assist with installation system startup and production ramp-up support
Support development of drawings documentation and system configuration records
Provide training and knowledge transfer to plant personnel during system implementation

Qualifications

Required Education

Two-year technical degree in Automation Electrical Technology Mechatronics or related field

Required Experience

3 years of controls or automation experience supporting industrial equipment

Required Skills

Experience integrating field devices for automation and process control systems
Experience with motion control material handling temperature control and safety systems
Experience tuning PID control loops
Experience implementing control sequence logic and fail-safe recovery sequences
Experience with HMI and graphical user interface systems
Understanding of electrical design practices and electro-mechanical systems
Familiarity with PLC systems motion control platforms robotics and system integration
Ability to troubleshoot automation systems within manufacturing environments
Ability to read and verify electrical control panels during system checkout
Ability to program using ladder logic or equivalent PLC programming languages

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Allen-Bradley Beckhoff LabVIEW Safety PLCs or iFIX SCADA
Experience working in manufacturing automation environments
Experience with computer vision systems
Experience with higher-level programming languages such as C C# VB or
Robot programming experience
Knowledge of electrical standards and safety codes including NEC NFPA 79 NFPA 70E ANSI and IEC standards
Experience working with machine builders and automation system integrators

Work Environment

100% onsite role in Newton NC
Manufacturing and engineering development environment
