Summary of Job Duties:
The Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant rotates with attending physicians in the OR clinic and rotates through all the orthopedic subspecialties. They will assist the surgeon with clinic organize visits and perform clinic procedures; assist in the operating room; answer pages; and round on post-operative patients on a daily and PRN basis. The APRN/PA will be responsible for managing postoperative outpatient care answering telephone inquiries and filling prescriptions. APRN/PA must have a high level of expertise to perform assessments/diagnosis/treatment of actual/potential problems of patients.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
APRN:
Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with a Masters in Nursing
Valid Licenses as a Registered Nurse and APRN by the State of Arkansas
PA:
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
Valid license as a PA by the State of Arkansas
PLUS:
Must be able to operate all typical nursing equipment essential to performing the job (i.e. scales procedure equipment needles blood pressure equipment and EKG machines).
Must have normal communication and sensory requirements.
Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a surgical setting
Prescriptive authority and a DEA license must be obtained after hire.

Responsibilities:
Extend the patient care and administrative services of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences physicians.
Work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patients health care problems; and will serve as a health care resource interdisciplinary consultant and patient advocate.
Coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients facilitating all necessary consults assuring that care is timely and appropriate.
Other duties may be assigned to this position.
