DescriptionSummary of Position
To establish and maintain quality and compliance systems that is consistent with corporate guidelines objectives and customer requirements.
This position has the principal accountability for the quality of all products produced at the facility and the qualification of all raw materials vendors and achievement of the BRC Standard for Packaging & Packaging Materials categorized in the High Hygiene Risk
Responsibilities:
- Working with the Corporate Quality Council on developing and implementing standardizations across the entire corporation.
- Ensuring on-going customer quality standards are being met on shipped product.
- Establishing Statistical Process Control as a working tool within the facility.
- Customer liaison activity where appropriate.
- Managing the daily activity of the quality staff to possibly include lead persons inspectors lab personnel and clerical positions.
- Training of plant personnel in quality system requirements where applicable.
- Assist the plant manager with any issues regarding quality or quality reporting.
- Team leader for plant management reviews.
- Ensure Compliance to the BRC Standard by implementing management procedures factory standards and a Quality Management System used in the manufacture of packaging and food packaging materials.
- Ensure that material components (resin inks pigments etc.) conform to federal and state regulations.
- Assist the plant manager with issues regarding site environmental issues.
- Assess environmental risks relating to lading spills resulting from defective containers.
- Ensure that all federal and local UN and DOT regulations are being conformed to and that reporting is being kept up to date.
- Understands and follows Hazard Materials Regulations 49 CFR Part 172.704 (a)(1) General awareness/familiarization training (a)(3) Safety training and (a)(4) Security awareness training.
- Training of applicable plant personnel in all compliance related activities.
- On-going maintenance of certification programs for both the plant and the personnel.
- Ability to supervise the quality team with a structured knowledge of team-oriented problem-solving skills and team development to achieve continuous improvement goals. Be accountable for achieving the desired timely results.
- Developing and implementing initial quality systems standards and processes.
- Changing the culture from the current product mind set to one that is process oriented.
- Managing change in the plant culture and environment.
- Develop a quality team capable of enhancing and maintaining a successful quality process.
- Infuse every employee with the quality philosophy.
- Manage increasing volumes and part complexity into the quality system quickly and efficiently.
- Assist new product development through the application effective specialized (when necessary) Q/C procedures
- Consistently meeting regulatory requirements.
- Keeping the Quality Process effective in the face of increasing volume and product complexity.
- Upgrading the skill levels of subordinates.
- Regulatory compliance
- Compliance to Food Product Safety
Requirements:
College degree in engineering or business.
Minimum of 5 years manufacturing quality systems experience with at least 2 of those years in a management role.
Knowledge/Experience:
- Understanding of UN DOT and EPA requirements on a federal and local level or the ability to quickly be educated in those areas.
- BRC Packaging & Packaging Materials implementation experience
- Experience in plastic manufacturing processes such as injection and/or blow molding. Solid background in statistical measuring processes such as SPC.
- Lead Auditor certification desired in the BRC Standards
- Union and non-union experience are both desirable.
- Experience in cost reduction production efficiency improvements and continuous improvement activities are also very desirable. Responsible for ensuring the compliance of Food Product Safety & Product Quality of the molded product to meet the expectation of our customers.
