PURPOSE
We are seeking a full-time School Social Worker to join in our School Counseling Office to assist in various capacities toward providing support to the community in a confidential and profesional manner. The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of a master degree level in social work with a demonstrated ability to work in a college preparatory environment. The individual will work in a structured and collaborative environment with others who are committed to the formation of each student according to the principles of the Grad to Grad: Open to Growth Intellectually Competent Religious Committed to Doing Justice and Loving. This position reports to the Director of School Counseling. This is a 10-month contract position.
Responsibilities
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Support & Intervention
- In collaboration with school counselors and other partners act as a lead coordinator of
tiered interventions within the School Counseling Department tied to student wellbeing - Manage and track tiered-data related to student wellbeing (e.g. attendance)
- Provide bridge care for students and their parents awaiting or seeking mental health services
including student risk assessment student safety planning and bridge care/acute
accompaniment for students as further professional care is established - In collaboration with school counselors and other partners support transitions for students
and their parents when returning from hospitalization or partial-hospitalization - Serve on the Student Support Team and other committees as assigned
Collaboration & Communication Family & Community Engagement
- Collaborate with such offices but not limited to College Counseling Deans Office/Nurse
Academic Office and Faculty Athletic Office Coaches and Club Moderators Campus
Ministry Admissions Office (to support families with relevant needs) and administration - Serve as a liaison between the School Counseling Department and local or external mental
health providers - Consult with external organizations that enhance school wellness initiatives
Family & Community Engagement Wellness & Resource Coordination
- Coordinate parent education and support programs tied to student wellness
- Empower the Rockhurst faculty/staff through education and training in emotional
behavioral social spiritual intellectual cultural and environmental aspects of student
wellness
Wellness & Resource Coordination
- Coordinate special assistance for students with needs such as clothing food insecurity and
transportation - Work with the Vice President of Administration/Chief Financial Officer on matters related
to financial need
- Help design and implement advisory programs and small-group support initiatives
Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks as needed or assigned to support the School Counseling Office and
Rockhursts mission
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Masters degree in social work or related counseling degree.
- Minimum 2 to 4 years experience in related field preferred
- Preferred experience working with parents and families to support them with challenges.
- Clear understanding of and commitment to Rockhurst High Schools mission
- Student-focused approach to counseling which includes a desire to build positive
- relationships that are characterized by mutual respect and trust
- Strong organizational written and verbal communication skills
- Strong collaborative skills with colleagues.
- Reflective practice and a desire towards growth
- Strong understanding of current theory and practice in the field of social work
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit stand and walk throughout the school day including moving between
classrooms offices and other campus locations. - Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods during meetings counseling
sessions or computer-based work. - Ability to lift carry or move materials such as files resources or small equipment (typically
up to 1020 lbs). - Sufficient vision hearing and manual dexterity to conduct counseling sessions engage with
students and families use office and communication technology and complete
documentation. - Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person in writing and during group
presentations or trainings. - Ability to respond promptly to student needs crisis situations or urgent concerns which
may require walking quickly climbing stairs or moving across campus. - Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for parent programs school events or
emergency support as needed..
