Job Summary

Position Description

In preparation for the June 2 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election the Department is seeking applications for seasonal clerk positions in the Voter Records division. This position will assist the Department with ensuring proper maintenance and delivery of voter data services and programs. This position requires the capacity to work on several tasks simultaneously attentiveness to detail and accuracy and strong work ethics conducive to maintaining strict standards of voter data maintenance.

In addition to the range of duties assigned to the 1404 job code the person in this position will have the following essential duties and responsibilities:

  1. assist with maintaining an accurate and complete voter roll
  2. conduct ongoing voter file maintenance and validation tasks
  3. process affidavits of registration and updates to existing voter records
  4. process messages in VoteCal a centralized statewide database that serves as the official system of record for storing and managing voter records throughout the 58 counties in California
  5. process state and local petitions nomination papers and signature-in-lieu of filling fee forms
  6. assist with analyzing and troubleshooting complex registration situations
  7. assist with facilitating voter programs and services designed to enfranchise residents and encourage participation
  8. assist with the set-up and storage of signages ballots and voting equipment for the Voting Center which may involve lifting pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs.
  9. serve voters at the City Hall Voting Center which opens 29 days before every election
  10. conduct signature review on vote-by-mail and provisional ballots
  11. conduct outreach to voters whose ballot or registration requires corrective action
  12. assist as a phone bank coordinator in the Election Center on Election Day
  13. assist with other election-related functions as needed

This position requires sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time multitasking between phone and computer and lifting and moving up to 25 pounds.

Position Schedule and Hours

This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits. For more information on the City and County of San Francisco benefit policies refer to the Employee Handbook available at is a seasonal position with the start date contingent upon completion of the hiring process. The Department is looking to have the person in this position tentatively start between May 18 2026 and May 28 2026 and assignment will run until tentatively June 19 2026. Actual start and end dates will be determined by the operational needs of the Department.

Work will be on site at the Department of Elections Office at City Hall San Francisco California. Work hours will vary widely in accordance with the demands of the election cycle and will range between 20 and 40 hours per week. The person in this position must be available to work overtime both during the week and weekends as necessary especially post-election. Overtime hours are paid at 1.5 the hourly rate.

Position Salary: $31.5375 to $38.3375 hourly

$65598 to $79742 annually


Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents filing use of office equipment public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.

Substitution:  Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative Training program or completion of a clerical training program (240 hours) or 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to 6 months of required experience.

  • Experience with data entry or data mining
  • Ability to adapt and learn new subject matter and procedures in a short period of time
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately with attention to detail to complete tasks within tight deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
  • Willingness to follow written and verbal instructions and work on multiple simultaneous projects
  • Flexibility tolerance and stamina for tedious tasks and long hours during peak election times
