GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Girls School in Sheridan is seeking a certifiedSpecial Education Teacherto support and inspire student growth. A background inLanguage Artsis a distinct advantage as strong literacy instruction is essential to meeting our students diverse academic needs.

This is a teaching position in a structured setting for delinquent youth ages 12-21. The teacher plans and creates a curriculum to help residents address Wyoming Content and Performance Standards from the Common Core of knowledge and skills. The teacher in this position is responsible for measuring and helping assess residents results. The teacher manages resident behavior and reports progress to the dormitory staff addition the teacher is required to be a part of the entire Wyoming Girls School program as appropriate. Occasional dorm fill-in duties and transportation of residents are required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.

Participates in the planning and development of the curriculum and the preparation of residents lessons and instructional materials.
Manages teaches and interacts withresidents in a classroom setting.
Administers assessment tests to residents; measures & assesses results.
Maintains education files following departmental regulations.
Collaborates with other staff regardingresidents needs and/or performance and attends multidisciplinary meetings for residents.
Adheres to state facility and federal guidelines related to institutional education programs.
Provides consultation on special needs residents for other educational programs or security staff.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

The Wyoming Girls School is fully accredited through Cognia Accreditation and for a school to remain accredited it must adhere to the highly qualified teacher regulations. The Wyoming Girls School must maintain certified teachers on staff; the open position of Certified Teacher is an essential position to fill due to maintaining a safe staff-to-student ratio during operational school hours.
In addition to Special Education Certification a background in Language Arts is a distinct advantage as strong literacy instruction is essential to meeting our students diverse academic needs. Applicants must be Wyoming certified or if certified in another state willing to obtain Wyoming certification.

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of planning for instruction motivation physical mental and emotional growth learning styles and classroom management.
Knowledge of curriculum management and development.
Knowledge of basic computer software and operation of computers.
Knowledge of basic regulations and practices associated with civil emergency activities.
Knowledge of basic instructional and training procedures and practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelors Degree (typically in Education)

Experience:

0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Teachers Aide.

Education & ExperienceSubstitution:

4-6 years of progressive work (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Teachers Aide.

Certificates Licenses Registrations:

Possession of or proof of ability to secure a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Certificate.

FLSA: Exempt
All positions within the Department of Family Services will require a background information check including the taking of fingerprints which will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation the Department of Family Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
