Job Summary

The Cornell University Hospital for Animals is seeking an Animal Attendant to assist in the care of patients at the Equine Nemo Farm Animal Hospital (ENFAH). In this role youll help maintain and disinfect hospital spaces assist with daily animal care and work alongside veterinary technicians clinicians and students in a collaborative setting. Youll also gain hands-on experience supporting the care and safe handling of a wide variety of large animals while contributing to a team dedicated to exceptional veterinary medicine. Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma and at least six months experience including direct working experience with large animals or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
  • Knowledge of or have the capacity to learn basic infection control practices.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position which includes but are not limited to stressful situations prolonged standing and kneeling assisting with patients which may exceed 50 pounds.
  • Use sound judgment to prioritize tasks coordinate with the care team and maintain smooth workflow in a clinical setting.

Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire which will be paid for by the department.

  • Experience working in a hospital environment
  • Large animal handling experience

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca NY.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship now or in the future for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
  • The schedule for this position is as follows: Monday Friday 12:00pm 8:30pm after the initial training period

The Cornell University Hospital for Animals provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days of the year. The schedule for this position requires flexibility to ensure that adequate patient care and service needs are provided without interruption or exception. Schedule may shift and require/include weekend holiday and night shifts.

This position is part of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union. The current rate of pay is listed in the collective bargaining agreement.
