Your New Role
The Electrical Systems Engineer will be responsible to theElectricalEngineering Manager for the investigation of maintenance and safety related defects andsubsequentengineering solutions to ensure contractual reliability targets are achieved and maintenance practices implemented / improved. You will also be responsible for activities relating to design modifications andsubsequentapplications for customer / regulatory approval for changes
What youll be doing
The duties and responsibilities of the role will include:
- Responsible for investigation ofmaintenance reliabilityand safetyrelateddefectsraised by our internal customersensuring compliance withstakeholderand UK legislative requirements.
- Assistin the development of documented engineering procedurespracticesand policies.
- Assistin the co-ordination of continuous improvement programmes to ensure contractual requirements are achieved.
- Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel asrequiredto complete the duties of the post
- Provide detailed engineering analysis of assigned complex issues and work towards containment of the issue root cause analysis andsubsequentdevelopment of long-term correctiveactions.
- Write clear detailed technical reports on any investigations carried out including details ofsubsequentactions and anyrecommendations.
- Progress corrective actions through the Change Approval Process ready for implementation on theappropriate fleets to includeappropriate documentationandevidence.
- Assistas needed in the creation or amendment of documents for maintenance and overhaul activities of electrical systems and/orcomponents.
- Develop andmaintaingood working relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers asappropriate tothe issues underinvestigation.
- Follow and whereappropriateassistin the development of relevant procedures to ensure smooth progression ofwork.
- Develop a good working relationship with design engineering and manufacturing engineering teams.
- Support learning and development within the Service and Maintenance team including the development of new and GraduateEngineers.
- Ensure adequate levels of Health Safety and Environmental concerns aremaintainedin all aspects of their work andin accordance withcompany policies
About you
Essential Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Engineering degree (i.e. BScBEngor MEng / MSc) in relevant engineering discipline or the ability todemonstratedegree level working
Excellent knowledge of aselectionofelectricalsystems both technically andoperationally.
Excellent knowledge ofelectricalengineering principles relevant standards codes of practices and design principles / practices; particularly in UK RollingStock.
Proven experience at delivering complexelectricalsolutions in a Rolling Stockenvironment.
Comfortable with hands on engineering for on-train investigations whenneeded.
Sound understanding of health and safety requirements in a practical working environment.
Behavioural
Ability to work with minimal supervision to clear targets and deliverables and within a tight project supportenvironment.
Ability to work under owninitiative.
Have a strong command oftheEnglishlanguage.
The ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and inwriting.
Commitment to working as part of ateam.

Sound knowledge of and compliance to rules andregulations.
Able toalwaysrepresentHitachi in a professional manner.
Position holder must be able tointerface effectively withall levels of personnel both within and outside the company.
Desirable
Experience in the RailwayIndustry;
Professional Registration with relevant Engineering Institution (e.g.IEngCEng with IMechE IET etc.
Knowledge of the UK Railway Operations and Engineering Safety ManagementSystem;
