Job Summary
Working under the Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs this role is responsible for advancing and operationalizing Deans Office initiatives across the clinical departments. The Senior Director of Clinical Affairs is a valued resource and partners closely with clinical departments and other health system leaders and will foster communication standardization strengthen cross-functional coordination and ensure initiatives are implemented in a structured consistent and effective manner.
May work in partnership with Ambulatory Operations leadership on select system-wide initiatives to support coordination and alignment without direct responsibility for managing outpatient practices. This rolewill also provide interim leadership focused on ensuring stability managing staff andmaintainingcontinuityduringleadership gapsorchangesandguiding teams through periods oftransition.
Responsibilities
Operational Initiatives
- Follow up on and drive execution of Deans Officeled initiatives ensuring timely progress accountability and alignment with institutional priorities.
- Serve as a key liaison to clinical departments to identify opportunities for administrative operational improvement and oversee the implementation of new initiatives and processes.
- Create structure around administrative initiatives by establishing expectations clear workflows roles timelines and communication plans to ensure consistency across departments.
- Partner with system-wide stakeholders (e.g. finance marketing DTP and the Office of the medical staff) to ensure initiatives are designed and rolled out in ways that are operationally feasible and aligned with organizational structure.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Improve communication and coordination between clinical departments and central/supporting areas helping to reduce silos and streamline decision-making.
- Represent the Deans Office at meetings committees and working groups as requested
Leadership & Special Projects
- Serve as Interim Department Administrator as needed during leaves of absence or vacancies ensuring operational continuity and stability.
- Work with external partners to maintain positive relationships and support projects related to joint ventures or affiliated relationships.
- Provide ramp up support and orientation for new administrators and ongoing support for other key department leaders.
- Lead or support special projects as assigned by the Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs and drive execution of assigned initiatives ensuring defined scope timelines owners and deliverables.
- Establish clear tracking mechanisms (e.g. dashboards status updates) and provide regular progress reports to the Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs.
- Achieve timely completion or meaningful advancement of priority initiatives within agreed-upon timelines.
- Proactively identify risks barriers or dependencies and escalate with recommended solutions.
Qualifications
- Masters degree required (e.g. MHA MBA MPH or related field)
- Prior experience as a Department Administrator or leader in an academic medical center or comparable complex healthcare organization
- Demonstrated experience working with senior clinical and administrative leadership
- 7-10 yrs. of relevant experience is required
- Strong operational organizational and team leadership skills
- Experience leading change management or process improvement initiatives
- Ability to translate high-level goals into clear workable processes
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Sound judgment and discretion when representing senior leadership
