Uncommon High School Advanced Placement (AP) Economics teachers are passionate about helping students understand how economic forces shape individual choices societies and global systems. Our teachers cultivate rigorous engaging classrooms that prepare students for success in college-level coursework while building critical thinking quantitative reasoning and analytical writing skills. At the heart of our AP Economics courses is an emphasis on data analysis real-world application and student-driven discourse. Teachers use a variety of instructional strategies to promote debate problem-solving and economic reasoning. By the end of each school year students are well prepared for the academic rigor of college economics courses and the AP Microeconomics and/or AP Macroeconomics exams as well as for informed civic and financial decision-making.
1. Instruction
Youll teach AP Microeconomics and/or AP Macroeconomics aligned to the College Board curriculum framework and exam expectations.
Youll design and deliver rigorous engaging lessons that emphasize economic models graphical analysis and real-world application of economic principles.
Youll guide students through core topics including supply and demand market structures fiscal and monetary policy international trade and economic indicators.
Youll develop students ability to analyze data interpret graphs construct evidence-based arguments and write clear analytical responses.
Youll facilitate student-led discussions and debates that encourage critical thinking and multiple perspectives on economic issues.
Youll analyze student understanding regularly and adapt instruction to maximize student mastery and AP exam readiness.
Youll partner with your department and grade level team on curriculum alignment and instructional strategies that support student achievement across content areas.
2. Data Analysis
Youll meet weekly with your instructional coach to analyze and respond to trends in student work samples and assessments.
Youll learn and implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom.
3. School Culture
Youll build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen loved and heard.
Youll partner with students families to ensure appropriate resources are available to support their childs learning needs.
Youll engage in practice-based professional development mentorship and coaching sessions.
Youll participate in weekly school-wide meetings to cultivate community model our core values and encourage student achievement.
Youll partner with your grade level team to develop academic goals and practice instructional strategies.

A demonstrated commitment to supporting students social emotional and academic development
An enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students
A self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives
Required Experience:
A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred).
Academic expertise in Education Economics Business History Geography Political Science Criminal Justice Social Sciences or the Humanities.
Prior to the start of employment you must have a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. Teacher certification is not a prerequisite for consideration at Uncommon Schools in the state of NJ but you do need to meet NJ state certification eligibility requirements (a final undergraduate or graduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduates on or after 9/1/16 or 2.75 if you graduated prior to 9/1/16). All instructional staff are required to become certified in the state of New Jersey within a reasonable period after beginning employment.

Compensation for this role is between $60000 to $80000.
Starting pay is determined using various factors including but not limited to relevant full-time teaching experience education certifications and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time Teaching experience will likely have a starting salary of $60000.
