Job Summary
Position Summary & Objective
Machinist II is responsible for setting up programming operating and maintaining CNC machines to produce high-precision components used in hydro turbines and complete turbine assemblies. This role involves interpreting engineering drawings selecting appropriate tooling and ensuring all parts meet strict quality and safety standards. The machinist monitors machine performance makes necessary adjustments and performs inspections to maintain accuracy and efficiency. Working closely with engineering and production teams the CNC Machinist helps ensure reliable high-quality turbine components are delivered on schedule.
Essential Functions Performed by the Position
- Proficient in blueprint reading and understanding of geometric tolerancing
- Able to make all but the most complex component set ups on large VBMs
- Able to edit programs for VBMs
- Able to make all but the most complex components set ups on large HBMs
- Keep Supervisor informed of problems regarding work piece schedule safety etc. as they arise
- Able to edit programs for HBMs
- Cleans up sweepings of machine tool operation scrap and collects in scrap/trash bins
- Able to set up feeds speeds and judge cutter/insert condition to optimize machining operation for meeting surface finish and productivity

Qualifications :
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers clients and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Required Education and Experience
- Associate degree preferred
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
- Two years to four years experience as a CNC Machinist
Licenses or Certifications Required
- Journey Machinist Preferred

Environment and Working Conditions
- Indoor working conditions (outdoor as needed)
- Confined area to contain sparks and glare
- Exposure to loud noises
- Long periods of standing and sitting
- May work in a scaffold or platform off the ground
- Heavy lifting may be required at times.
