Senior Packaging Engineer

Position Overview
A growing established food manufacturer is seeking a Senior Packaging Engineer to support packaging innovation process improvement and optimization across a diverse portfolio of food products. This role will focus on packaging design material selection cost management validation and continuous improvement while partnering closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to support both new and existing products.

This is a highly cross-functional role within the broader product development organization and is ideal for someone who can balance technical packaging expertise with strong project coordination and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Support new product development and product improvement initiatives from concept through commercialization with primary responsibility for packaging specifications packaging processes and packaging equipment considerations.

Develop and help implement innovative packaging solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams considering quality shelf life sustainability regulatory compliance cost product protection and consumer experience.

Manage packaging-related activities tied to material selection package design cost optimization and analytical testing for continuous improvement.

Conduct packaging evaluations trials and testing to assess performance compatibility food safety and functionality.

Partner with suppliers and internal stakeholders to support packaging development technical troubleshooting and implementation.

Assist with material testing and packaging application analysis in coordination with external vendors and global/internal teams as needed.

Stay current on packaging materials sustainability trends equipment capabilities and regulatory requirements and collaborate with quality/regulatory partners to maintain compliance.

Support product excellence initiatives involving co-manufacturing / co-packing partners including packaging-related process improvements for quality and cost reduction.

Maintain and update quality and documentation systems for assigned products and packaging projects.

Research and evaluate new packaging materials for cost sustainability food safety performance and compatibility and support identification/evaluation of outside manufacturing partners for new product launches.

Monitor market trends and competitive packaging solutions to help ensure compliance product quality and market competitiveness.

Lead or support scale-up testing and commercialization activities ensuring smooth transition from development to full production while maintaining packaging integrity.

Provide regular updates on project progress in alignment with internal product development processes.

Apply technical and scientific problem-solving to identify root causes of packaging or product defects and recommend corrective/preventive actions.

Support additional technical or cross-functional projects as needed.


Details:

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Packaging Engineering Food Science or a related field.

6-10 years of experience in packaging development packaging application or related work within the food manufacturing industry.

Strong knowledge of packaging materials packaging technologies testing methods and packaging equipment/machinery.

Understanding of food safety quality assurance and regulatory requirements related to food products and packaging development.

Experience working closely with packaging suppliers on development testing and implementation.

Experience supporting new product development / commercialization is strongly preferred.

Candidates with a mix of food manufacturing and broader CPG packaging experience will be considered though food industry experience is preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook Excel Word PowerPoint).

Strong interpersonal organizational and time management skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced cross-functional environment.

Korean language skills are preferred but not required; multilingual capability is a plus especially for collaboration with international teams.
