Head of Product Design

As software becomes faster and cheaper to build craftsmanship taste and clarity become the true differentiators. At Make we believe deeply in design but belief alone isnt enough. What ships must consistently reflect that belief.

Make is evolving from a left-to-right automation canvas into a more flexible AI-powered platform one that is combining structured workflows with AI agents new surfaces like Make Grid and other experiences that are all in service of helping people manage and run their businesses in a visual way.

Were hiring a second Head of Product Design to own and evolve the visual product identity of Make and ensure that this evolution feels cohesive intentional and unmistakably Make. Youll report to and partner directly with our current Head of Product Design who leads UX strategy research and our core automation platform. Your mandate is complementary and distinct: elevate craft define visual direction and transform how design works as we enter the AI era.

This is not a pure management role. Youll lead a small team (34 designers) but youll also work hands-on in high-impact areas shape strategic initiatives and advocate for design excellence at the leadership level.

What we are looking for:

• A strong design leader with exceptional craft and visual taste who cares deeply about detail clarity and cohesion
• A point of view on how design evolves in an AI-first product organization
• Proven experience shaping product direction in close partnership with Product and Engineering leadership
• Ability to define and evolve visual systems that scale across complex product surfaces
• Strong systems thinker who can balance long-term platform vision with near-term execution
• Experience leading small high-performing design teams while remaining hands-on in key initiatives
• Confidence in presenting and defending design decisions to senior stakeholders and executives
• Experience building products that combine structured workflows with more open-ended AI-driven experiences
• A track record of raising the quality bar across interaction design visual design motion and overall product polish
• Ability to move fluidly between strategy concept development and pixel-level refinement
• Comfort operating in ambiguity and helping teams find clarity
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• 7 years of experience in product design with several years in a senior or leadership role

What youll do:

• Define and lead the visual product direction across our most strategic initiatives
• Partner closely with the Head of Product Design VP-level Product and Engineering leaders to shape Makes evolution toward AI- and agent-driven experiences
• Raise the standard of craft and execution across the product
• Work directly with a team of 34 designers through critique concept development and hands-on design work
• Contribute personally to high-impact projects from early concept exploration to final polish
• Drive cohesion between our traditional automation canvas and emerging more flexible AI-powered experiences
• Advocate for quality and user-centric thinking in product planning and roadmap discussions
• Strengthen collaboration rituals between Design Product and Engineering
• Help evolve our design systems and visual language to support scale flexibility and clarity
• Identify opportunities to go beyond incremental improvements and push bold creative direction where it matters most
