The Senior Engineer serves as the single point of technical contact for Japan Gas Power customers providing end to end technical ownership from early opportunity development through ITO and OTR execution. Partners with Sales commercial Application Engineering and Project teams to define optimal technical solutions align customer expectations with execution realities and ensure compliance with Japanese standards and regulatory requirements. Translates complex engineering topics into clear customer focused communication and acts as the primary technical escalation point to drive timely issue resolution and strengthen long term customer relationships.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Act as the single point of technical contact for Japan Gas Power customers from early opportunity development through ITO (InquirytoOrder) and OTR (project execution) ensuring continuity of the technical solution across the full lifecycle.
- Partner with New Unit Sales to establish a robust preITO technical information flow proactively assessing product fit and define an influencing strategy to best position GE Gas Power prior to firm bid.
- Respond to customer technical inquiries and preRFP information requests Conduct economic life-cycle evaluation analysis of GE Vernova and competitor solutions for projects prior to RFP and gather insight on customer development plans strategy and evaluation methods for bid positioning.
- Define and communicate to the ITO proposal team the project background optimum configuration key customer drivers necessary internal approvals and overall bid strategy; ensure alignment on requirements deviations performance guarantees and risk posture.
- Coordinate with Application Engineers Proposal leader project engineers during contract finalization to deliver an integrated compliant and competitive technical solution that meets Japanese standards grid codes and regulatory requirements.
- Partnered with the assigned Project Engineer during OTR to align customer needs with technical solutions schedule and execution constraints; facilitate regular technical meetings between the customer and project team.
- Translate complex internal engineering and design topics into customerfriendly language educating customers on technical and schedule challenges to set realistic expectations and foster transparent collaborative relationships.
- During project execution demonstrate resourcefulness in resolving customer issues by leveraging internal resources knowledge bases and functional expertise; act as the primary point of contact for technical escalations and drive timely closure of customer concerns.
- Support Project Engineers to educate customers about technical / schedule challenges to set realistic expectations fostering collaboration.
- Spend dedicated time with customers to listen to their needs concerns and feedback on projects. Translate same to GEV project team as actionable items fostering empathy and understanding towards customer issues and concerns. Act as the primary point of contact for customer escalations.
- Drive project team to resolve customer issues or concerns in a timely manner.
- Gather competitive intelligence and support postwin and postmortem analyses capturing lessons learned from Japan opportunities and projects and feeding them back into offer strategy standard work and future opportunity development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent knowledge/experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience in design engineering / application engineering /Project execution in the Power industry
- Fluent in Japanese and English in speaking and writing
- Significant experience working with customers on combined cycle power projects
Desired Characteristics
- Sound knowledge of Gas Turbine product portfolio design of Gas Turbine and associated equipment for power plants
- Ability to understand technical requirements for combined cycle plants Gas Turbine and associated equipment and come up with technical solutions
- Good experience of Combine cycle/Gas Turbine performance define the best solution for positioning the product competitively
- Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal mentoring and leadership skills
- Minimum 3 years of prior experience in the tendering and deal strategy for New units project execution or services ITR of gas power business.
- Demonstrated experience driving the Lean initiatives for improved process and establish culture in the team.
