The School Programs team provides opportunities to explore the worlds natural and cultural diversity through meaningful learning experiences for Pre-K-12th grade students educators and community organizations. The School Programs team prepares students and educators to learn through authentic investigations with museum collections through the development of learning resources workshops in classrooms and in communities professional development for teachers and field trips to the Museum.

As a member of the Field Trips team the Bilingual Field Trip Facilitators primary role is to provide programmatic support for a variety of school programs for Pre-K-12th grade students particularly for field trips to the museum. The Bilingual Field Trip Facilitator sits in the Sue Ling Gin Center for Education and Public Programs department and reports to the Manager of Field Trips. They work closely with members of the School Programs team the Public Programs team Education Program Assistants as well as the Visitor Services Department. The position is responsible for facilitating the welcoming process for all Pre-K-12th grade Illinois student groups that visit the museum on field trips facilitating learning experiences at the museum supporting school partnership programs and supporting off-site events for schools in both English and Spanish. As a Bilingual Facilitator this position is also responsible for translating existing and future programming materials to support Spanish-speaking audiences. A fluency test must be passed upon hire.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support School Programs experiences for Pre-K-12th grade Illinois students including:

Field Trips

  • Greet and welcome school groups into the building as they arrive for field trips using English and Spanish to support the process as needed
  • Operational support for coat check and lunch collection for student groups using English and Spanish to support the process as needed
  • Monitor the cafeteria during lunch times as well as monitor coat check at the end of field trips
  • Facilitate gallery experiences student classes and other programmatic activities for field trips in both English and Spanish
  • Maintain inventory of program supplies.
  • Prep field trip organization materials such as signage bins maps or worksheets each day.
  • Translate field trip materials into Spanish to support bilingual or monolingual Spanish-speaking students on field trips as needed.
  • Assist with setting up and resetting rooms for field trips and general program uses.
  • Ensure the safety of all guests and follow museum safety and emergency protocol as needed.
  • Maintain clear communication with field trip stakeholders including School Programs staff Visitor Services staff and Protection Services

School Partnerships

  • Support school partnerships by facilitating classroom workshop visits led by the School Partnerships Educator in both English and Spanish.
  • Prep materials for school partnership programs and translate materials as needed into Spanish
  • Support field trips and science nights for partnership schools.

Operations

  • Support all other School Programs experiences including materials prep and facilitation for off-site programs and promotional events teacher professional development on- and off-site classes cleaning and resetting the PlayLab space as needed.

Support Family Programs experiences for Pre-K-8th grade students including:

Camps

  • Work hours must be 8am-3:30pm during camps to support the program.
  • Facilitate or support facilitation of camp curriculum and learning programs throughout sessions to Pre-K-8th grade audiences
  • Support the camp program by preparing materials and learning spaces before and after camp events
  • Support the process of children and their families dropping off and picking up throughout the camp seasons for check in and check out
  • Support lunch breaks for camp staff and campers
  • Support campers moving through the building during camp activities or when they arrive late
  • Support setting up tearing down moving activities and materials for camp programming
  • Lead small groups of campers through museum spaces

Early Childhood Camps and Programs

  • Support early childhood learning programs by preparing materials and learning spaces before and after events
  • Facilitate or support facilitation of early childhood camp sessions throughout the year or in the PlayLab space in general in both English and Spanish

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in education science history social science or Spanish

  • Spanish language fluency and comfort communicating with Spanish-speakers of many dialects and regional linguistic variations

  • Ability to translate materials into Spanish from English and to review preexisting or autogenerated translations

  • This position works directly with the general public Pre-K-12 students and Field Museum members partners and supporters. Candidates must enjoy welcoming engaging and interacting with both individuals and groups of all ages in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability in field trip or event planning.

  • Experience working with an education-based non-profit organization or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Ability to work independently

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with friendly & professional demeanor.

  • Ability to solve problems flexibly in a fast-changing environment.

  • Pedagogical knowledge of best practices in education and state and national core standards preferred.

  • Ability to interact positively with people of different backgrounds.

Supervision Received:

Receives general supervision by Manager of Field Trip Learning Experiences.

Supervision Exercised:

The position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
