Seasonal Outside Worker

Seasonal Outside Workers (Labourers) take pride in contributing to the success of the team. They work in all weather conditions to maintain Merritts public grounds so they can be enjoyed by our Citys residents and visitors during the spring and summer seasons.
As a Seasonal Outside Worker you will assist in maintaining the City parks landscapes sidewalks streets roads the cemetery compost airport lawn bowling and baseball diamonds. With your customer-service orientation your duties may include landscaping planting bulbs shrubs weeding gardens pruning raking and helping the team to repair potholes concrete and bricks. You will run small equipment such as mowers weedwhackers skid steers and you may drive light-duty trucks or other equipment related to the work.

This position requires 8 hours per day 5 days per week. The season can run between March and October   As part of your role you may also be required to participate in an on-call rotation.

Qualifications :

• The ability to work safely and efficiently 
• Knowledge and experience in the methods materials tools and equipment used in related maintenance and the proper and safe operation of various hand and power tools and other equipment related to the work. 
• Good interpersonal and communication skills to deal tactfully courteously and accurately with the public and Municipal staff work effectively within a team.
• Enthusiastic positive attitude and customer-service orientation.
• Ability to analyze and troubleshoot.
• Sound judgement to perform duties as assigned and work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to keep simple records of the work performed.
• Sufficient physical strength stamina and coordination to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.

For new hires and those working in designated positions of trust employment is conditional on a satisfactory police information check.

Additional Information :

This position is within the union bargaining unit and the rate of pay is $33.66 per hour (2026 rate) with 14% in lieu of benefits upon completion of probation.
