JOB DESCRIPTION: Certified Physical Therapist Assistant
POSITION SUMMARY:
- The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides physical therapy services to students under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist in accordance with Wyoming law and District policy. The PTA assists in implementing individualized therapy interventions designed to improve students physical functioning mobility positioning and access to educational environments.
- The PTA supports students identified with or suspected of having disabilities that interfere with gross motor development mobility strength endurance or participation in school-based activities. The PTA carries out treatment plans developed by the supervising Physical Therapist documents student progress and collaborates with school staff and families to support student access to instruction and school programs.
- This position is posted for the 2026/2027 school year.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Physical Therapist Assistant:
- Implements physical therapy interventions and treatment plans developed by the supervising Physical Therapist to support student mobility positioning strength balance coordination and functional independence. *
- Assists in carrying out therapeutic exercises neuromuscular re-education activities gait training balance activities and functional mobility tasks consistent with established treatment plans. *
- Observes student performance during therapy sessions and documents responses progress and concerns for review by the supervising Physical Therapist. *
- Measures and records student data including range of motion strength endurance mobility and other relevant functional indicators as directed. *
- Assists with positioning lifting transferring and securing students in therapeutic equipment wheelchairs standers gait trainers and other adaptive devices. *
- Monitors and maintains therapy equipment and assistive devices; reports equipment concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist. *
- Collaborates with teachers special education staff paraprofessionals nurses and related service providers to support the integration of physical therapy strategies into the educational setting. *
- Provides training and guidance as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist to staff and caregivers regarding safe mobility positioning and implementation of therapy-related strategies. *
- Assists the supervising Physical Therapist with data collection and preparation for IEP meetings progress reports and required documentation. *
- Travels between District sites as assigned to provide services.*
- Follows the policies and procedures of the school(s) and the *
- Maintains accurate and complete records including testing and other relevant records. *
- Ensures that confidentiality is maintained for sensitive records and other information. *
- Responds appropriately to student behavior in the total school environment and supports school-wide expectations. *
- Participates in professional growth (such as professional organizations coursework workshops and conferences) and other professional activities (such as school and/or District committees taskforces in-depth studies or councils). *
- Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately; exhibiting sensitivity to those with special needs; maintaining good professional relationships with parents and community members; and presenting a good role model. *

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to develop and maintain a positive relationship with students and to provide a climate conducive to testing and assisting students; ability to use effective communication skills; knowledge of special education law and regulations; ability to use time effectively; good organizational skills; ability to maintain a positive relationship with other staff by collaborating and working cooperatively with them (including supervisors); knowledge of physiological psychological emotional and educational behavioral development of children and/or adolescents; ability to lead meetings; ability to help groups achieve consensus; and knowledge of the various categories of disabilities and educational programs appropriate for students with those conditions.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associates degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program; current certification as a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in Wyoming.
Work Experience: Experience as an educator or related-service provider is preferred.
