Overview
The International Institute of New England (IINE) in partnership with MassHire Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) offers a temporary work experience designed to provide participants with valuable industry knowledge hands-on experience education and training. This opportunity allows participants to gain professional skills while supporting the administrative functions of various IINE departments. Departments include Community Services Administration Volunteer Services Individual Development Account (IDA) Program Education and Employment Services.
Additional Opportunities: Participants may also choose to complete their IINE/WIOA Work Experience with external community partners. This option must be confirmed before the work experience is scheduled.
Compensation Details
Participants can only work up to 48 hours at minimum wage. Upon successful completion of the program participants are eligible to receive a Work Experience Stipend of $100.
Responsibilities
Participants have the flexibility to support one or more of the following departments performing administrative and support tasks as outlined below:
- Organize client binders and maintain file rooms
- Upload and organize digital client files
- Copy and file documents
- Perform data entry tasks
- Organize and copy client checks
- Support Front Desk Staff and the Office Manager with daily operations
- Organize and manage in-kind donations
- Assist with food distribution efforts
- Set up apartments for newly arriving clients
- Contact clients to schedule meetings and events
- Assist with IDA program workshops
- Provide interpretation services as needed
- Support ESL classes by assisting instructors and students
- Set up and clean up classrooms before and after sessions
- Provide administrative assistance for educational programming
- Assist in creating resumes for clients
- Provide general administrative support
- Offer interpretation services
- Contact clients to schedule employment-related meetings and events
Required Skills/Abilities
- Must be a WIOA program participant
- Interest in gaining administrative and industry-specific experience
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to support diverse populations including refugees and immigrants
- Skill development in administration education employment services and more
- Networking opportunities with IINE staff and community partners
- Exposure to nonprofit and social service sectors
- Paid opportunity through the WIOA program
Education & Experience
- Hands-on experience in a professional setting
Work Environment Conditions
- Exposure to bright overhead office lighting use of office technology such as laptops printers mail machines and other in-office equipment. Frequent interactions with clients and colleagues.
Physical Demands
- Occasional lifting pushing and pulling materials (boxes equipment) of 50 pounds or more.
- Continuous sitting (or standing) at a desk for long periods of time.
- Frequent bending reaching overhead and reaching at or below shoulder level required.
