The Statler Hotel located on Cornell Universitys campus is renowned as the premier hotel that teaches. It serves as the practical hotel operations laboratory for the Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration providing students with hands-on experience in hospitality management. Position Summary:

The Houseperson in the Meetings and Events department at the Statler Hotel is responsible for ensuring the seamless execution of events by handling the setup breakdown and cleaning of all function areas. This role involves maintaining and assisting clients with audiovisual equipment while providing professional and timely service. Additionally the Houseperson supports and mentors student workers during shifts fostering their development. Flexibility is required as the schedule varies with business needs including nights weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity equity access inclusion and well-being.

  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students faculty staff and community members.

  • Familiar with audiovisual equipment and basic event set-ups ranging from conferences and meetings to social events such as weddings and galas.

  • Able and willing to move heavy furniture quickly and efficiently in order to meet set up deadlines.

  • Professional appearance and pleasant demeanor.

  • Must be able to handle last-minute requests and shifting priorities in a high-paced work environment whist delivering service fitting of a four-diamond property.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of computers specifically display and audio settings typically used in a presentation setting as well as commonly used software and programs such as zoom Microsoft teams and PowerPoint.
