Job Summary

About the role

Our program begins in February each year initially based in Hobart Tasmania. You will have the opportunity to rotate across various relevant areas of our business where you can build on your capabilities and create a career thats right for you. This may include being onsite for a major asset upgrade being involved in the pre-commissioning and commissioning stages of a project involved in detailed design with our consulting business Entura or working on our strategic asset plan. The program also involves:

  • Working at sites across Tasmania including on site at our hydropower stations dams and lakes depending on your role
  • Being a part of big renewable infrastructure projects that are working towards powering the nation
  • The opportunity to work for a business voted as one of the best places to work by Graduates

As a Graduate Engineer you will likely be required to travel around Tasmania to attend and evaluate our assets as necessary. Our Graduate Program is a fixed-term program for 2 years.

Skills & experience

A recent (graduated within the last 2 years) or upcoming degree in Engineering (Civil Electrical or Mechanical)

Passion enthusiasm and a commitment to driving positive change

Ability to communication and work effectively (written and verbal) in a team environment

Attention to detail and self-awareness

Eagerness to learn and build relationships inside and across the business

Our Graduate program is a great opportunity to learn! This does mean we are more focussed on those currently studying (or recently completed) their Bachelors/Undergraduate Degree. Those studying Masters Degree or Postgraduate studies are less eligible for our program as skills are typically more advanced at this point and our program is designed to teach you a lot of the skills potentially already developed.

At Hydro Tasmania we pride ourselves on our merit-based recruitment processes and for our Graduate recruitment this is no different. This means you will be assessed on your skills and abilities however as a Graduate we arent expecting you to have lots of experience in your chosen field we are simply looking for you to be able to demonstrate some core competencies such as working well in a team communication self-awareness and a proactive approach to work.

When applying make sure you select the stream most relevant to your degree/background. If more than one is relevant you can apply for multiple streams. We do recommend however to focus your application on one stream and call out in your cover letter if you wish to be considered for multiple!

If eligible for our program (studying/recently completed a relevant degree and have full working rights in Australia or able to obtain in time for employment) once you have submitted your initial application you will be asked to complete our Vervoe online assessment. Vervoe is an online platform that provides skills-based assessments for candidates. We recommend applying ASAP to ensure you have as much time as possible to complete this next stage.
