Job Summary

TITLE: Intern -Volunteer Services


LOCATION: Minnesota History Center - 345 W Kellogg Blvd. St. Paul MN 55102

COMPENSATION: $16.50 hourly


HOURS: This is a part-time temporary position from approximately June 8 2026 to August 30 2026. A part-time intern must be available to work 15 hours per week. This position offers a flexible work schedule coordinated with the interns schedule and operational needs. Preferred working hours are 3 shifts per week to keep consistency mostly M-F with occasional Saturdays.

SEMINAR EVENTS: Interns are required to participate in three in-person seminars focused on professional development learning how cultural organizations operate and building a network of industry professionals. At the end of the semester interns complete a final presentation to share their work.

DESCRIPTION: The Volunteer Services Intern will support coordination of Event Support Volunteers who assist staff and Site Managers throughout the Twin Cities with a wide variety of events for visitors members donors and volunteers. This role will also support the recruitment training and placement of summer volunteers at MNHS sites statewide that host seasonal volunteer programs.


RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) Support coordination of Event Volunteers - receive volunteer requests from MNHS staff post opportunities email volunteers create detailed reminder emails and follow up with staff and volunteers after the event; 2) Provide a high level of customer service to both volunteers and staff in other departments ensuring consistent communication and relationship building; 3) Help plan and execute the annual Fall Volunteer Recognition event; 4) Assist with volunteer recruitment and placement including posting shifts updating opportunity descriptions and setting up onsite training for new volunteers; 5) Write at least two Volunteer Spotlight articles for the Volunteer Newsletter and Website; 6) Attend at least four Special Events (scheduled around the interns availability) and get to know volunteers; 7) Systems Used: Volgistics volunteer management tool Google Suite HubSpot



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student or have graduated within the past 12 months at the time of application.

  • Ideal candidates might be currently pursuing or a graduate with a degree in the following areas: Non-Profit Management Human Resources Event Management Government Relations History Psychology Social Work Sociology

  • Excellent Customer Service Skills

  • Relationship builder

  • Communicates well in person on the phone and through email

  • Solid organization skills and attention to detail

  • Interested in meeting new people of different ages and backgrounds

  • Experience volunteering either for a museum or in any other capacity is appreciated but not required
