Job Description:
An Assistant Purchase (or Purchasing Assistant) in a fabrication plant is
responsible for supporting the procurement department by ordering raw materials (steel plates pipes structural sections) consumables (welding rods gases) and MRO (Maintenance Repair and Operations) spares to ensure uninterrupted production. This role requires balancing cost-effective purchasing with timely delivery in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement & Sourcing:Procure raw materials (steel structural components) bought-out items and consumables based on production requirements.
- Vendor Management:Develop new suppliers negotiate pricing and maintain relationships with existing vendors.
- Order Processing:Raise process and track purchase orders (POs) within an ERP system (e.g. SAP Oracle MS Dynamics).
- Expediting:Follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials to prevent production shutdowns.
- Inventory Control:Monitor stock levels of raw materials and consumables flagging shortages and reducing excess/obsolete stock.
- Documentation & Compliance:Verify invoices against Purchase Orders (POs) and Goods Receipt Notes (GRN) and maintain compliance with ISO standards and internal audit requirements.
- Documentation & Reporting:Prepare MIS reports on procurement supplier performance and cost-saving initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education:Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Production preferred) or Supply Chain/Logistics.
- Experience:25 years of experience in procurement preferably in heavy engineering steel fabrication or manufacturing.
- Technical Skills:Knowledge of fabrication materials (steel grades thicknesses) reading technical drawings and understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Software Proficiency:Strong knowledge of ERP systems (SAP preferred) and MS Excel.
- Soft Skills:Strong negotiation analytical and communication skills.
Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Zero production downtime due to material shortages.
- Percentage of on-time deliveries.
- Cost savings achieved through negotiation.
- Inventory accuracy.
