Job Description Summary

The Construction Maintenance Technician I performs routine maintenance and minor renovation/construction across multiple building trades in support of campus operations. This position operates under general supervision and focuses on developing proficiency in facilities systems institutional standards maintenance and projects.

The Construction Maintenance Technician II performs skilled maintenance and renovation work across multiple trades in support of campus operations. This position operates under limited supervision resolves the majority of routine campus requests and renovation/construction projects and supports building functionality in occupied environments.

This position is not eligible for sponsorship of non-immigrant or immigrant visa status through Wake Forest University. All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

Construction Maintenance Technician I:

  • Perform basic remodeling maintenance and repair tasks such as: Carpentry repairs (drywall patching doors hardware ceiling tiles) painting and finish repairs minor plumbing assistance and minor electrical tasks under supervision.

  • Assists with tasks involving pouring concrete and laying brick or concrete blocks.

  • Operates heavy equipment with approved training and experience.

  • Respond to assigned work orders across the Reynolda Campus footprint and other designated spaces.

  • Sets up and removes special equipment and staging for scheduled special events connected with Wake Forest University as needed.

  • Responsible for the safe and proper use of a variety of hand and power tools as needed.

  • Responsible for the regular inspection/review of service vehicles tools and assigned equipment for operational readiness.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections as assigned.

  • Follow safety work order and other relevant policies/procedures.

  • Complete training as assigned in a timely manner.

  • Provide courteous and professional service to faculty staff and students.

Construction Maintenance Technician II:

  • Perform journeyman-level carpentry work in the construction repair remodeling and renovation of floors roofs ceilings stairways partitions doors windows casings screens wood trim compliance with safety regulations.

  • Performs minor tasks such as pouring concrete and laying brick or concrete blocks as assigned.

  • Operates heavy equipment with approved training and experience.

  • Respond to assigned work orders across the Reynolda Campus footprint and other designated spaces.

  • Performs tasks involving small renovation and space modification projects.

  • Read and interpret work orders sketches and basic drawings.

  • Determine appropriate repair methods and materials.

  • Coordinate with the foreperson and/or manager to obtain skilled-trade support when issues exceed scope.

  • Provide guidance and assistance to junior staff as needed.

  • Follow safety work order and other relevant policies/procedures.

  • Complete training as assigned in a timely manner.

  • Provide courteous and professional service to faculty staff and students

Required Education Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Construction Maintenance Technician I:

  • High school diploma plus one to three years of construction facilities or maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Valid drivers license and able to meet the needs of the Universitys automotive insurance policy.

  • Basic knowledge of building construction and maintenance practices.

  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn multiple trades.

  • Ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as a team on routine tasks.

  • This position is designated as essential personnel to support business continuity during campus emergencies disasters or other special needs as directed by management. Essential personnel are subject to recall inside/outside their normal schedule. Additional details can be found in the Wake Forest University Policy on Weather and Other Unusual Conditions.

Construction Maintenance Technician II:

  • High school graduate plus three to six years of experience in construction facilities or maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Valid drivers license and able to meet the needs of the Universitys automotive insurance policy.

  • Working knowledge of building construction and maintenance practices.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Understanding of safety practices codes and accessibility considerations.

  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple service requests.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

  • This position may be designated as essential personnel to support business continuity during campus emergencies disasters or other special needs as directed by management. Preferred Education Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Vocational or technical training in building maintenance or construction

  • Experience in institutional or commercial facilities.

Accountabilities:

Responsible for own work only.

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Climbing Balancing Stooping Kneeling Crouching Reaching Standing Walking Pushing Pulling Lifting Grasping.

  • Visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes drill presses power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arms reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters technicians service people plumbers painters mechanics etc.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Activities occur both inside and outside subject to environmental conditions. Workers are subject to noise vibrations hazards atmospheric conditions and oils.
