The University of Alabama at Birmingham ( UAB ) Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is seeking a Neuro-Ophthalmologist to join the faculty. UAB is a state of-the-art care medical center located in the vibrant city of Birmingham Alabama. This position is full-time tenure-earning tenured or non-tenure earning Assistant Associate or full Professor. The ideal candidate will have completed a Neuro-Ophthalmology and Pediatric Ophthalmology and Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Clinical Fellowship at an accredited program. UAB offers engaging opportunities for active participation in teaching research and service. Faculty members also enjoy strong collaboration with other departments. Opportunities exist for both educational and research pursuits. Ophthalmology at UAB is a strong department that is well integrated with the departments of Neurology Neurosurgery and Neuro-radiology to delivery coordinated state-of-the-art care to manage complex neuro-ophthalmic cases. Further there are excellent opportunities for research within a well-funded vision research program focusing on retinal optic nerve and neurologic disease. There is immediate opportunity to engage in a very busy clinical practice within a tertiary clinic. This neuro-ophthalmology clinic was established 18 years ago thus there is a pre-existing patient base with a great percentage of referrals generated internally through the department. The Neuro-Ophthalmology clinic is located in the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital in Birmingham Alabama. Ocular surgeries are performed as well at the Callahan Eye Hospital (over 13000) ocular surgeries are performed per year within 17 OR suites. The departments practice has rapidly grown into the largest multi-specialty Ophthalmology practice in the state of Alabama. The group is comprised of more than 25 providers seeing over 95000 annual clinic visits within 12 clinics in multiple counties.
