Job Summary
The Medical Technologist (ASCP Registered) is responsible for performing a full range of laboratory testing in accordance with CLIA regulations. This role includes pre-analytic analytic and post-analytic duties with a strong emphasis on Blood Bank services in an acute care hospital environment.
Responsibilities
Pre-Analytic Responsibilities
Perform clerical duties data entry and specimen processing
Collect and prepare specimens for testing
Ensure accurate specimen identification and handling
Analytic Responsibilities
Perform waived moderate complexity and high complexity testing on blood and body fluids as defined by CLIA 1988
Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation
Conduct quality control procedures and troubleshoot technical issues
Correlate abnormal laboratory results with pathological states to determine validity and need for follow-up testing
Post-Analytic Responsibilities
Verify and report test results accurately and timely
Investigate unexpected results (technical instrumental or physiological causes)
Maintain laboratory documentation and data management systems
Additional Duties
Maintain laboratory inventory and supplies
Monitor and maintain non-analytic equipment (refrigerators freezers centrifuges)
Participate in performance improvement initiatives
Assist with evaluation of new methodologies and instrumentation
Provide training and orientation to laboratory staff and students
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or related science
OR
Bachelors degree with certification in a laboratory subspecialty
OR
Grandfathered Medical Technologist under CLIA 88
Certifications (Required):
Experience:
Minimum 1 years of recent Blood Bank experience
Must have experience in an acute care hospital laboratory
Non-acute care experience will not be considered
