| Job Description: | The University of Florida (UF) College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is searching to identify a Medical Director (MD) for the UF Veterinary Hospitals (UFVH). The Medical Director provides oversight of small animal clinicians at WEC (emergency primary care and urgent care staff or faculty veterinarians) in providing veterinary care in the UFVH consistent with the mission of the college and university. Those activities for which the MD will have primary or shared responsibility include: - Plans coordinates and oversees the day-to-day services and associated clinical operations for small animal practice at WEC; oversees activities of clinicians (ER single mission track faculty and WEC SA staff veterinarians).
- Ensures a high standard of medical care and client communications consistent with the mission of the UFVH.
- Assists in the investigation of patient safety events and client complaints.
- Provides direct advice to the Associate Dean of Clinical Services (ADCS SA/LA) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) regarding issues related to implementing and evaluating clinical services policies and clinical personnel concerns.
- Assists in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives/projects.
- Participates in developing implementing and maintaining policies objectives standards of care and procedural protocols.
- Maintains a focus on intrahospital communications (between clinician groups at WEC and between WEC and the main hospital in Gainesville) and rDVM communications.
- Assist in client relations for WEC patients/clients.
- Assist in overseeing or developing specific programs at WEC such as small animal infection control.
- Assure compliance with federal/state veterinary practice regulations and college and University of Florida policies.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Selection Criteria - Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and customer satisfaction with all stakeholders including administration employees clients communities regulatory agencies and referring veterinarians.

This position will report to the department chair for their faculty assignment (75% SACS/CDPM) and the ADCS (LA/SA) for the MD assignment (25% SAH). The department chair and ADCS (LA/SA) will work together to determine the specific administrative FTE for this position. The department chair completes the annual evaluation with input from the CMO on performing the administrative duties. The term for this medical director position is 3 years with potential for renewal. |
