Essential Functions:

  • Effective written and verbal communication

  • Able to handle stressful situations caused by high volume and deadlines

  • Operate and communicate clearly on the phone and display good phone etiquette at all times.

  • Operate a Laboratory Information System (LIS) Requires fine motor coordination clear speech normal hearing and good visual acuity including color perception.

  • Absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results.

  • Adherence to company safety regulations Perform phlebotomy duties as required to include venipuncture and capillary techniques using standard equipment such as vacutainer tubes and sleeves tourniquets syringes and butterfly needles.

  • Assure that requisition includes patient demographics and accurate required billing information.

  • Transcribe physician orders Facilitate the unobserved collection of urine specimens.

  • Interact directly with patients to obtain information for laboratory records explain procedures allay fears and elicit cooperation. Process label and store specimen samples for subsequent analysis.

  • Perform and document various quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.

  • Perform Med-Competence testing.

  • Enter waived testing results into the LIS utilizing the manual entry mode.

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment.

  • Perform light cleaning of work area Perform specialized collection as requested.

  • Occasionally they deliver or pick up specimens outside of the laboratory.

  • Use appropriate instruments such as centrifuges to maintain specimen integrity.

  • Prepare send out specimens for delivery to various locations.

  • Maintain inventory of supplies and place orders when necessary.

  • Load specimens and program test on automatic instrumentation.

  • Report results in LIS via auto verify Identify instrument problems and report to the technologist.

  • Work closely with and under the supervision of a technologist.

  • Prepare and stain peripheral smears and gram stains.

  • Set up and plate micro specimens on proper media and prepare for transport.

  • Miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Education/ Licenses

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Required. 2 years of College or an Associates Degree is Preferred Licenses:

  • Certifications: State MA-P (Medical Assistant Phlebotomist) or MA-C (Medical Assistant Certified)
