The Energy Leader is responsible for developing implementing and sustaining a comprehensive energy and resource management strategy for the Canada Packers Brandon facility. This role will lead initiatives that reduce utility consumption improve energy efficiency and support decarbonization.

Energy Strategy & Planning
Host a Strategic Energy Management Workshop with the Maintenance team that will be fully paid for and led by Efficiency Manitoba within 3 months of starting.
The Workshop also includes a site walkthrough/energy scan to identify potential projects to populate your project register.
Develop and annually update a facility-wide Strategic Energy and Resource Management Plan (SEMP) with the support of Efficiency Manitoba within 6 months of starting.
The SEMP is a formal energy and resource reduction plan that outlines annual savings targets potential projects activities in progress and completed measures.
Advise management on operational changes and recommend actions to curtail power gas and water consumption especially during peak demand periods to optimize processes and reduce costs.
Complete Certified Energy Manager (CEM) training within 18 months of starting which is paid for by Efficiency Manitoba.
Identify and prioritize resource conservation and energy-saving projects in conjunction with the Maintenance Manager.
A third-party strategic energy management consultant assigned by Efficiency Manitoba will provide coaching and regular meetings (up to 100 hours per year) to update project progress and build your expertise.
Energy Performance Monitoring & Reporting
Collect and analyze energy and utilities data using equipment (meters loggers and ultrasonic leak detectors) available to borrow from Efficiency Manitoba to monitor energy and water consumption identify anomalies and recommend energy-saving opportunities to management.
Maintain baselines and dashboards.
Prepare quarterly reports on KPIs and related GHG emissions and submit to Efficiency Manitoba and internal stakeholders.
Lead annual resource use audits to identify optimization opportunities and ensure continuous improvement.
Project Development & Implementation
Develop business cases and feasibility analyses with the support of the Sustainability team and Maintenance Manager.
Coordinate project execution and M&V.
Act as primary utility contact and pursue Efficiency Manitoba and other financial incentives with the support of the Sustainability team.
Launch and promote resource conservation campaigns to encourage behavioral changes among operators focusing on efficient use of resources and improved shutdown procedures. Support these campaigns through internal communications such as newsletters and employee meetings.
Facilitate regular meetings with energy teams to communicate project successes share best practices and promote energy efficiency among senior leadership.
Foster a culture of sustainability by engaging employees at all levels and driving continuous improvement in energy management practices.
Compliance & Standards
Ensure adherence to energy and environmental standards.
Maintain documentation for audits and certifications.
Develop and manage (Capital) project plans operations budgets and schedules (annual and multi-year).
Provide engineering support for the operations group.
Assist senior management in developing and justifying capital expenditure requests.
Investigate practical cost-effective and innovative plant improvement solutions.
Utilize and incorporate Six Sigma and other project management tools methodology and principles.
Negotiate contracts and supervise equipment vendors service providers and contractors.
Actively participate in company initiatives e.g. Innovation Share groups Energy Efficiency.
Travel as required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
5 years experience as an engineer or Mechanical/Electrical Technologist or 10 plus years of equivalent project experience.
Proven track record of handling multiple medium to large sized projects.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Team player with effective leadership interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong organizational analytical and planning abilities combined with practical business sense.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office and Project Management software).
Working knowledge of industry codes and regulations e.g. OH&S WHMIS HACCP.
Knowledge and experience with Food industry would be an asset.
Fluency in the English language.
