The Materials Performance and Durability team in GE Aerospace Research conducts research and innovates around new coating materials (Themal environmental catalytic) coating processes high temperature materials and composites - these materials and processes enable the future of flight possible as we enable flights to be safer and more sustainable.
As a Post-doc in the field of materials you will conduct basic and applied research on developing advanced materials compositions and application of materials aligned to GE this role you will work with teams to innovate and execute experiments on the design & development of catalytic coating materials repair and cleaning technologies for new product introduction production and field service.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Design plan and execute (under guidance) research projects related to aerospace materials processes systems and repair technologies including ceramics high temperature materials hydrocarbons and dust resistant materials
- Develop and optimize materials & processes for aerospace components including materials selection process parameters and performance testing. Enhance Performance durability and reliability through experiment execution on materials synthesis and coating application to substrates and engine hardware
- Collaborate with other scientists & engineers coating experts quality & manufacturing experts and technicians to develop and test new materials coatings processes repair & cleaning technologies and support development programs
- Translate test results into clear actionable conclusions for catalytic and other materials selection and coating processes
- Prepare high-quality technical reports presentations and summaries and present research findings to internal teams business stakeholders scientific conferences and meetings
- Ensure laboratory safety through meticulous adherence to protocols maintaining a clean and organized workspace and fostering a secure environment for research activities
- Support method development standardization and continuous improvement of materials processing procedures and workflows. Contribute to process improvements that enhance throughput data quality and reliability of test methods.
Qualifications and Requirements
- PhD in Material Science Chemistry Catalysis or related fields
- Experience conducting research and development in materials and chemicals processes especially catalytic materials and coatings dust and hydrocarbon resistant materials ceramics cleaning and repair technologies. Experience with materials selection process development testing and characterization methods process parameters performance testing process variation control
- Strong understanding of Materials Science Chemistry Catalysis Hydrocarbons and Materials Characterization
- Strong record of scientific publications/patents and conference presentations
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in research projects
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality
- Good teaming skills and ability to work with wide range of technical teams and projects.
Desirable Characteristics
- Additional experience in experimental research in the field of aerospace materials and chemical technologies processes and systems testing and characterization methods will be an added benefit
- Experience in Materials Engineering with specialization in Catalysis
- Knowledge of hydrocarbons and oxidative pathways reaction kinetics test methods materials characterization techniques (GC-MS UV-visible and FTIR/Raman spectroscopy Thermal analysis)
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
