Job Summary

The Municipal Engineer plays a key role in shaping resilient sustainable communities by contributing to the planning design and delivery of essential municipal infrastructure. This position focuses on underground utilities including water distribution sanitary sewer stormwater management and drainage improvements and offers the opportunity to work on impactful projects from concept through construction.

In this role youll combine hands-on technical design with collaboration across multidisciplinary teams while gaining valuable exposure to construction-phase services. Youll work with a degree of autonomy supported by experienced senior engineers and project managers who are committed to your growth and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed designs and calculations for water sanitary storm and drainage infrastructure in accordance with municipal and provincial standards.
  • Prepare engineering drawings design reports technical memos and cost estimates.
  • Support preparation of tender documents including specifications and quantities.
  • Review shop drawings respond to RFIs and provide construction support during project execution.
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines (survey geotechnical environmental) and external stakeholders (municipal staff utility companies contractors).
  • Contribute to quality assurance/quality control processes.
  • Assist project managers with scheduling budgeting and client communication as required.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and registration as . with a recognized Provincial engineering association
  • 4 years of experience in municipal engineering preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Experience with underground infrastructure design (water sanitary storm drainage).
  • Strong understanding of municipal standards design guidelines and permitting processes.
  • Ability to interpret survey data geotechnical reports and utility information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience preparing tender packages and contract documents
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices and municipal inspection procedures
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and other civil design platforms
  • Familiarity with hydraulic modeling tools such as WaterCAD and SWMM
  • Experience working with northern rural or remote communities is an asset
  • Ability to manage small tasks or sub-projects with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical problem-solving and time-management skills
  • Collaborative team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality work
