Position Purpose

Leadsguides and directs thedelivery ofoccupationaltherapyservices in the facilityin accordance withlocalstateand federalregulations standards andestablished facility policiesand proceduresto provideappropriate careand services to residents.

Required Qualifications

TheOccupationalTherapistmustpossess:

  • Avalid unrestrictedlicenseinhis/her therapy discipline inthe state.

  • Meet educational requirements ofhis/her licensure requirements.

  • Valid drivers license in the state of employment.

  • Knowledgeableskilled nursing home regulations procedureslawsregulationsand guidelinespertaining tolong-term care.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Plans develops organizes implementsevaluatesand directsthedelivery of occupationaltherapy services as well asits programs and activitiesin accordance withcurrent state and federal laws andregulations; andrespectivepractice act(s)in thestate.

Plans develops organizes implements evaluates and directstheexecution of occupationaltherapy servicesin accordance withphysicians orders and American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)in accordance withguidelines issued by the governing bodyand its respective affiliate state chapter.

Coordinates the achievement and reporting ofthe facilitys an ongoing system tomonitorthese key indicators.

Evaluatesand reportskeyperformance indicator outcomesof the occupationaltherapydepartmentto therehabilitation directortodeterminethe need for action such as re-education or revisions related tothefacilitys outcomesregulatory compliance practice act(s)and/or customer satisfaction.

Develops and implementsprocessesand systems to effectively lead guide and direct the delivery of occupationaltherapy servicesincluding but not limited to processes for thetimelyscreening evaluation treatmentdischargeand all associated documentation requirements forresidents in the facility.

Complies with facility policies and procedures forappropriately documentingbilling and coding for residentsreceivingoccupationaltherapy.

Providesresident information needed for the resident assessment instrumentaccording to facility policysuch as functional abilities and goals functional status range of motionself-care activitiesoccupationaltherapy minutes and distinct calendar days etc. during the defined observation period(s).

Participates as a qualified clinician for the interdisciplinary determination of the residents usual performance in a functional assessment as required by facility policy(RAI Users Manual)forMedicare Part A Medicare Advantageresidentsupon admission interim and at time of discharge.

Ensuresoccupationaltherapy equipment is storedusedandsanitized disinfected and/or cleaned properly and safely in the facility.

Participates indaily weeklyand/ormonthlyrehabilitativeandinterdisciplinary teammeetings to discussresidentstherapy progression in relation to discharge planning for residents receivingoccupationaltherapy servicesasdesignatedby the Rehabilitation Director.

Adheres to the state practice guidelines in his/her discipline as defined by the State of Tenneessee Occupational Therapy Practice appropriate conduct and follows practice guidelines as defined by the professional association.

Knows how to access the occupationaltherapy state practice act and professional association standards.

Develops andmaintainspositive relationships with residents employees and family members through scheduled deliberate positive interactions with them using face to face phone or other means of communication.

Evaluates work performance ofoccupationaltherapy assistantsin the departmentandmaintainsaccountabilityin concert withapplicable standards of practice by-laws and code of conduct forhis/hertherapy discipline.

Facilitates servesattendsorparticipatesin various committees of thefacilityasnecessary.

Knows and understandsthe purpose and requirements for thescope of workand supervision requirementsasdefined by theoccupationaltherapypractice act in each state.

Ensures delivery of compassionate qualitycare and servicesacrossthe occupationaltherapyspectrumasevidencedby adequate and competentoccupationaltherapystaffgeneral cleanlinessof therapy gyms/officesandoptimalresident functioning andsatisfaction with occupationaltherapyservices provided.

Identifiesand collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team physicians consultants and community agencies toidentifyopportunities for enhancedservices to the residentsand/orresolve issues.

Knowsoccupationaltherapyemployeesandemployeesacross all departments by namein order toeffectively communicate and meet resident needs as well as anymiscellaneous related needs.

Promotes teamwork mutual respect and effective positivity and active daily problem solving.

Makeswritten and oralreports/recommendations to the rehabilitation directorconcerning occupationaltherapy.

Follows facility policy related to readiness forhealthinspection surveysOccupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) surveys and any other regulatoryentity orrequirement.

Reads and stays informedregardingregulatoryscope of work and supervision requirements as defined by theoccupationaltherapy practice actbusiness practicesand otherchanges influencingoccupational therapyoutcomes.

Promotes safe work practices safety rules and accident prevention procedures to preventresident/employeeinjury and illness.

Additional Tasks

  • Treats all residents with dignity and and protects all residents rights.

  • Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and withstandards of business conduct and state/federal regulations and guidelines and relevantpracticeact(s).

  • Follows appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents and themselves.

  • Maintains confidentiality of protected health information including verbal written and electronic communications.

  • Reports noncompliance with policies procedures regulations or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate any retaliation or discriminationtoHR or compliance officer.

  • Reports any allegations of abuse neglect misappropriation of property exploitation or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or residents fromabuse andcooperateswith all investigations.

  • Reports any occupational exposures to blood body fluids infectious materials and/or hazardous chemicalsin accordance withfacility policy.

  • Participates in all life safety and emergency drills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facilitys emergency plan.

  • Reports work-related injuries and illnessesimmediatelytodesignatedstaffmember.

  • Follows established infection control policies and procedures.

  • As a condition of employment completes all assigned training andskillscompetency.

  • contaminants.

  • Subject to exposure to infectious waste diseases and/or conditions which include AIDS Coronavirus Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis.

  • May be subject to hostile or emotional residents family membersvisitorsor personnel.
