Job Description
The Heersink School of Medicine Department of Surgery is currently recruiting faculty candidates to be considered for an open-rank non-tenure or tenure track faculty appointment in the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery . The successful candidate will have an interest in health services research. The successful candidate will be expected to meet research and teaching needs in the Department of Surgery. The Division is actively involved in clinical research aimed at quality improvement for surgical patients as well as basic science research including investigations into the impact of metabolic surgery on anxiety and drug addiction. The Division also houses a highly sought after minimally invasive surgery addition to our focus on patient care we provide an environment that supports the education of health professionals and encourages advanced research to further medical science. The University of Alabama at Birmingham one of three autonomous institutions within The University of Alabama System is the only four-year public university in the states largest metropolitan area. The University spans 100 blocks in the city center with over 250 buildings providing over 13 million feet of assignable space. For fiscal year 2021-2022 (most recent available) the Universitys economic impact on the Birmingham area exceeds $12.1 billion to the FY2022 UAB received over $715 million in NIH extramural grants and contracts. As of the fall of 2022 the University employed 26000 people had a faculty of 3176 (45% of whom are female) and had a student enrollment of just under 22000 at the undergraduate through doctoral levels. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS : The successful candidate will hold an Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and will be an outstanding leader and highly skilled widely recognized in the field with a strong track record. Candidate should have substantial professional work experience in one or more areas of research teaching and/or service.
