Job Summary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Must be at least 21 years of age
  3. Obtain and maintain a minimum of a valid Class D3 Chauffeurs license
  4. Pass pre-employment and subsequent driving history checks
  5. Pass pre-employment and periodic background history checks
  6. Pass a pre-employment substance abuse screening
  7. Pass all random alcohol and/or drug tests
  8. Work well with others including all personality types
  9. Ability to communicate effectively and de-escalate students and parents
  10. Effective problem-solving skills
  11. Knowledge of or ability to navigate Iowa City and surrounding areas
  12. Have and use effective verbal and written communication skills
  13. Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
  14. Effectively manage student behavior
  15. Accept and implement coaching and training
  16. High degree of attention and considerable dexterity in the control of the school van
  17. Practice defensive driving at all times and avoid vehicular and industrial accidents by practicing safe driving and work habits
  18. Proficient with Google drive and database applications
  19. Consistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post trip inspections
  20. Professional driving experience preferred but not required
  21. Commitment to accuracy and accountability
  22. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Transportation Manager

SUPERVISES: N/A

JOB GOALS: To organize and provide safe and reliable transportation service by operating various vehicles in transporting students to and from school as well as related activities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Safely transport students to and from school activities etc.
  2. Adhere to an assigned schedule
  3. Arrive at pick up and drop off points in a timely manner
  4. Effectively and appropriately manage student behaviors
  5. Maintain a cooperative attitude and build rapport with students peers supervisors parents and school personnel
  6. Use effective and professional verbal and written communication skills
  7. Report discipline problems to school official as instructed
  8. Present self in a professional manner including attire and being alert and attentive
  9. Successfully complete all required trainings meetings classes and professional development
  10. Work together as a team to keep interior and exterior of vehicle clean safe and presentable
  11. Quickly and safely evacuate vehicle in case of an emergency
  12. Check student roster to ensure proper ridership
  13. Check vehicle for remaining/lost students items etc.
  14. Accurately complete reports and paperwork in a timely manner. Including vehicle maintenance requests student behavior referrals directions etc.
  15. Abide by federal law state law and district policies procedures and expectations
  16. Utilize technology when required
  17. Consistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post trip inspections
  18. Immediately report any accident or incident
  19. Ensure vehicle is properly fueled according to department policy
  20. Prepare the vehicle for student transport including inclement weather conditions including scraping or cleaning windows etc.
  21. Safely and appropriately operate various types of vehicles and equipment including radios and emergency equipment
  22. Continuous use of hands fingers and wrists repetitively
  23. Report any safety or maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
  24. Clarity of vision at varying distances to see small details
  25. Drive a district vehicle to conduct work
  26. Clean vehicle as designated by department procedures
  27. Other duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. 175 School (student) days plus other non-school days as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator as needed for student transportation.
  2. Hourly wage and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.
  3. Split shift
  4. Eligible for single plan benefits

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Districts policy on Evaluation State Statute and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
