The S.O.A.R. summer program is seeking an experienced and energeticschool nurse. School nurses strengthen and facilitate the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of students and staff; identifying assisting overseeing and collaborating with other school personnel in the removal or modification of health-related barriers to the learning of individual students; and collaborating with other school personnel to promote health education and a healthy learning environment for students and staff.
Essential Functions
Provide direct nursing care to students including first aid and emergency response
Assess and manage student illnesses and injuries
Administer medications in accordance with physician orders and district policy
Maintain accurate and confidential student health records
Monitor and support students with chronic health conditions (e.g. asthma diabetes allergies)
Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate with emergency services when necessary
Communicate with families regarding student health concerns as appropriate
Collaborate with summer school administrators and staff to support student health needs
Ensure compliance with school health policies and procedures
Maintain and organize health office supplies and equipment
Promote a safe and healthy school environment
Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelors or Masters degree from a nursing program accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Vermont
Current certification in:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
First Aid
Completion of an educational orientation program provided through the Vermont Agency of Education based on the requirements for delivery of health services as defined in:
Vermont School Quality Standards
Vermont manual titled Standards of Practice: School Health Services
Knowledge of professional nursing principles practices and procedures
Ability to provide direct nursing care to school-age children and adolescents
Ability to respond effectively and appropriately in emergency situations
Knowledge of state and federal laws regulations and best practices related to school health services
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain accurate and confidential health records
Ability to work independently in a school setting
Ability to collaborate effectively with staff students families and administrators
Dates and Position Hours:
Orientatiuon Date: 6/25 (Tentatively) 1 day
Program Dates: June 29th - July 30th. No program July 4th
Hours: 35 hours/week daily schedule 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday.
