Job Title: Agricultural Research Assistant
Location: 26 Davis Drive Research Triangle Park NC 27709 (100% onsite)
Timings: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; 1 Hour Lunch
Work Schedule: On site Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm (flexible) 40hrs/week.
Occasional weekends as needed to water plants (2-3 Hours).
Job Description:
- Employee will be working with the Biology R& D - Weed Control Group in Research Triangle Park NC supporting the Herbicide Development Greenhouse and Laboratory Team with setting up and assistance in greenhouse and laboratory experiments evaluating efficacy of crop protection materials.
Duties include:
- Preparation/propagation/harvesting of plant material such as filling pots with soil sieving soil seeding transplanting propagating and harvesting seeds or other plant parts as required.
- Daily watering fertilizing pruning/trimming will be required as well as pest maintenance of plants as needed to ensure research quality data is generated from trials.
- Keeping a clean neat and tidy greenhouse potting room and lab such as sweeping washing dishes shop vacuum.
- Support all greenhouse laboratory and any outdoor trials either alone or under supervision.
Qualifications Experience and Skills:
- Minimal a high school diploma with Greenhouse/plant care work experience preferred Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Agriculture Weed Science Agronomy Horticulture Plant Science or other Agricultural/Plant Science discipline.
- Skills or experience in growing and maintaining a healthy variety of plants mainly corn cotton soybean rice wheat and occasional perennial crops as well as weed species for research purposes in both soil and soil-less mixes. Experience with conducting greenhouse laboratory and field trials is a plus.
- Experience in pesticide application and greenhouse plant rearing are strongly desired. Must have or be willing to get a valid North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License.
- Must have ability to keep accurate records and follow research protocols as instructed.
- Self-motivator thinks ahead and completes tasks without being instructed able to work with minimal supervision.
- Must have good abilities to communicate with others and be able to work both independently and in teams.
- Need to be able to lift 50 lbs. and be willing to work in hot humid or cool damp conditions as required for greenhouse or field activities.
- Must possess a valid North Carolina drivers license.
