POSITION PURPOSE:
Performs master craftsman and lead work associated with installation inspection and maintenance of communications equipment which may include fire alarms life safety sprinkler systems master antenna television (MATV) intercoms communications equipment and fixtures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
Considerable knowledge of life safety sprinkler fire alarm MATV intercom systems and communications equipment and fixtures;
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel; Google Apps;
Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;
Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on of life safety sprinkler fire alarm MATV and intercom systems;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information collaborative efforts and feedback;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff staff members of external funding agencies and the community.
EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent;
Five years of experience directly related to life safety systems sprinkler fire alarm MATV intercom systems and communications equipment and fixtures.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operators license according to the State of NC requirements;
Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates degree or technical school training in related to communications or related field;
Hold an electrical license relevant to fire alarms and other low voltage systems;
National Institute for Certification and Engineering Technology (NICET) level I and/or NICET level II certification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs master craftsman and lead work associated with installation inspection and maintenance of communications equipment which may include fire alarms life safety sprinkler systems MATV intercoms communications equipment and fixtures.
Responds to assigned work orders relating to life safety sprinkler fire alarm MATV and intercom systems.
Troubleshoots appropriate corrective measures and performs work to provide a solution.
Replaces faulty or defective life safety sprinkler fire alarm MATV and intercom systems.
Performs inspections testing and certification of life safety sprinkler fire alarm MATV and intercom systems.
Prepares and maintains records work logs and reports as needed.
Adheres to laws regulations and requirements set forth in the Wake County Public Schools (WCPSS) Safety procedures/policies.
Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures occupational health practices and maintains a safe work environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in an indoor and environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers hand/power tools etc. The position at times must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff contractors vendors and staff members of external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment. Frequent exposure to hazardous materials gases and chemicals moving parts and inclement weather conditions.
