As a Bridge Worker I you will play a key role in ensuring the safety and functionality of vital infrastructure. You will be responsible for conducting regular maintenance and necessary repairs on a variety of structures including bridges piers staircases boardwalks lookouts docks and boat launches. Your work will take you to various locations across the city contributing to the upkeep and accessibility of these essential public assets.
What will you do
- Operate and perform minor maintenance of the following types of equipment: various sized jackhammers drills chain saws tampers sandblasters concrete vibrators etc.
- Work on structural steel concrete asphalt or wood components of bridges
- Perform bridge washing and debris removal
- Perform bridge painting sandblasting sealing grouting placing and finishing structural concrete
- Handle various toxic products such as epoxies grouts sealers paints thinners and cleaners
- Assist with on site set up maintenance and clean up including scaffolding construction and dismantling barricade locating and equipment locating
- Load and unload equipment from trucks
- Flagman duties
- Other related duties as required
- Completion of grade 8
- A minimum 1 year of experience in maintenance and repair of bridges including road bridges open space bridges and other timber structures
Assets:
- First Aid training
- Woodworking experience
Skills required for success:
- Knowledge of standard methods materials tools and equipment used in bridge staircase boardwalk lookout dock boat launch maintenance and repair
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety aspects applicable to the work
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written
- Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform required duties
- Interpret work plans and provide specific instructions to crews and other leaders
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety aspects applicable to the work
- Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ( a culture of equity diversity reconciliation and inclusion
- Alignment with the goals of the Environmental Management System Enviso
- Applicants may be tested
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
Work Environment:
- Night and weekend shifts may be required
