Job Summary

The Assistant Pool Manager position performs mid-level work with moderate supervision and has a moderate level of discretion. The position is responsible for conducting operations at the pool which include preventing and responding to emergency situations maintaining and cleaning the pool facility and providing customer service to the patrons of the pool.

Essential Duties & Required Qualifications

  • Reliable transportation.
  • Prevent accidents and minimize or eliminate hazardous situations.
  • Recognize & respond accurately to all emergency situations.
  • Perform appropriate water rescues as necessary.
  • Communicate with Pool Manager and Aquatics Attendants the need for additional assistance or equipment.
  • Perform daily facility operational tasks.
  • Observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the facility pertaining to both staff and patrons.
  • Educate staff & patrons and inform them of the purpose/need for rules and regulations.
  • Attend weekly in-service training.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports and logs & chemical testing.
  • Assist with various pool maintenance functions such as but not limited to cleaning the pool surrounding deck areas cleaning office and restroom facilities on a regular basis.
  • Assist Aquatics Attendant with aquatic events.
  • Responsible for handling questions and concerns from patrons and other City staff.
  • Present and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor including wearing appropriate uniform or attire and exhibiting respect and enthusiasm as duties and responsibilities are carried out.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities - Assistant Pool Manager
  • Manage cash handling procedures daily deposits at the drop box.
  • Assist Recreation & Aquatic Coordinator with aquatic events.
  • Prevent accidents and minimize or eliminate hazardous situations.
  • Recognize and respond accurately to all emergency situations and perform appropriate water rescues.
  • Communicate with Recreation & Aquatic Coordinator the need for additional assistance or equipment.
  • Observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the facility pertaining to both staff and patrons. Educate the staff and patrons and inform them of the purpose of the need for rules and regulations.
  • Assist in planning implementing and enforcing staff rotation. Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports logs and chemical testing.
  • Perform adjustments to the chemical and filtration systems at the pool as trained and authorized by the Recreation & Aquatic Coordinator.
  • Perform various pool maintenance functions cleaning baskets vacuuming the pool and policing pool and pump room areas.
  • Responsible for handling questions concerns and resolving complaints & problems from patrons contract instructors lifeguards and Aquatic Attendants.
  • Present and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor including wearing appropriate uniform or attire and exhibiting respect and enthusiasm as duties and responsibilities are carried out.
  • Knowledge and competency in American Red Cross Lifeguarding standards as well as facility specific emergency procedures for the Leander Aquatics Department.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old by May 25 of the current year.
  • Currently enrolled in Senior High School OR a high school graduate or its equivalent.
  • A minimum of one season (10 weeks) of full-time or equivalent part-time lifeguard experience.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
Certificates Licenses Registrations
  • Ellis & Associates InternationalLifeguardTraining Program (ILTP) certification (current and valid) is required for this position (training will be provided).
Preferred Education Experience & Certifications
  • A minimum of six weeks of experience with facility operations.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge and competency in American Red Cross Lifeguarding standards as well as facility specific emergency procedures for the Leander Aquatics Department.
  • Ability to function effectively under direct supervision and to develop effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to receive directions and to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Exhibit professional work habits including reliability dependability creativity and demonstration of enthusiasm for the job.
  • Must be available to work irregular hours and at various intervals including weekends holidays and evening hours.
  • Must be able to work well with people of all ages and dispositions. Condition of employment The City of Leander will conduct an education and employment verification local and national criminal history records search on all candidates.
  • Must have good knowledge of pool safety and first aid.
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  • Knowledge of philosophy objectives and requirements to provide safe recreational and work environments.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.

Physical Demands & Additional Information

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk sit use hands to handle and feel items reach with hands and arms climb or balance stoop kneel talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally loud.
