Job Summary

The Instrument Repair Shop provides stainless steel surgical instrument and tray service and repairs. The Senior Instrument Repair Technician is responsible for the inspection maintenance calibration and repair of a wide range of medical (stainless steel) instruments working directly with hospital staff and managing/updating equipment records in the Jefferson Censitrac software system.

Essential Functions

This role requires advanced technical skills and a strong understanding of instrumentation systems components and use. The technician ensures equipment operates efficiently safely and accurately supporting operational continuity compliance with safety standards and specific doctor/procedural requirements.

• Perform inspection alignment adjustment sharpening of instrumentation with consistent and accurate results as per testing parameters required by current manufacturing repair standards and standards set by existing technician standards.
• Light modifications machining and fabrications of instruments as requested.
• Instrument tape removal tape replacement and printing of new labels as needed.
• Instrument container inspection repair dent removal gasket replacement latch adjustments and part replacement.
• Proper use and maintenance of repair tools and equipment. Including but not limited to cleaning systems and microscope for inspection and repairs.
• Sorting and organizing of instruments and set upon arrival or departure including the use of the Censitrac tracking software.
• Work closely with hospital departments and personnel to assist them with information regarding instrument needs usage or replacements.
• Provide a physical liaison between instrument repair shop and clinical departments; including picking up and delivering of instruments or sets as needed and setting up pickups and drop-offs as required.
• Ordering receiving and keeping an accurate inventory of parts supplies etc.
• Stay current with equipment vendors pricing and/or technology advantageous to instrument repair and service
• Maintain and clean the shop area including but not limited to the vacuum system cleaning water and ultrasonic cleaners machine maintenance including changing belts and wheels.
• Maintain and update MSDS books safety inspections and signage as required.
• Provide Training for any additional instrument repair technicians as time and requirements allow including evaluating aligning adjusting grinding sharpening and other forms of manipulation required to repair an instrument correctly.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent

AND

Experience:

10 years or more in surgical instrument repair or surgical instrument manufacturing. Experience in a hospital environment and familiarity with surgical instrumentation and medical terminology.

Minimum Certifications Registration or License Requirements:

Current valid Drivers license
