Job Description

Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Under the direction of a radiologist the Nuclear Medicine Technologist conducts nuclear medicine procedures using imaging equipment and radioactive materials to assist in the diagnosis of disease and injuries. Responsible for radiation safety and quality control procedures and delivers patient care and education before during and after diagnostic imaging procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers visitors and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Performs diagnostic imaging examinations and dynamic tests such as radionuclide angiocardiography and coronary artery imaging studies.
  • Prepares and administers radioactive agents by adhering to established procedures kit preparation as well as IV injection of agents to ensure accurate diagnostic testing/imaging.
  • Sets up equipment and appropriately positions patient to ensure adherence to protocol cooperation and optimal results.
  • Maintains daily log of radionuclide doses administered to patients as well as record of tests performed diagnosis and any other pertinent information. Maintains all records required by State and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations.
  • Calibrates and checks all applicable equipment; maintains equipment by performing scheduled cleaning/tests and documents results; contacts service personnel and notifies supervision of malfunctioning equipment.
  • Implements radiation safety guidelines and conducts proper radiation protection during the imaging process.
  • Performs other related technologist duties as directed by the lead technologist supervisor or manager including those related to quality assurance and/or control.
  • Responsible for maintaining continuing education required for licenses and job position
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies (Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required):

  • Knowledge of RIS systems
  • Knowledge of PACs systems

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate of approved Nuclear Medicine Program or current validated Registry from ARRT in Radiology Technology (R). ARRT (R) (CT) Preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in a clinical nuclear medicine department preferred.

Minimum Certifications Registration or License Requirements:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • CNMT (ARRT or NMTCB)
