Role Purpose
The Quality Engineer (specialised in Welding & Quality Records) is embedded within the Clients project organisation as a Record Support Officer and is responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality compliant Lifetime Quality Records (LTQRs) across the supply chain.
The role is records-led with a strong emphasis on LTQR completeness compliance and right-first-time delivery. The post holder brings quality engineering and welding expertise to ensure that welding-related records and associated quality documentation fully meet contractual regulatory and project requirements.
The role supports Quality Management Leads (QMLs) by increasing capacity for records review and driving suppliers to consistently deliver complete accurate and compliant quality records in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lifetime Quality Record (LTQR) Reviews
- Perform completeness reviews of Lifetime Quality Records including:
- Early or draft revisions (e.g. interim or preliminary EOMRs)
- Final revisions prior to project handover.
- Verify that LTQRs contain all required documentation approvals and traceability in line with:
- Contract requirements
- Project specifications
- Regulatory and quality management system expectations.
- Apply quality and welding knowledge to identify missing incorrect or non-compliant welding records (e.g. weld maps WPS/PQRs welder qualifications NDT reports material certificates).
2. Quality Records Compliance & Accuracy
- Review supplier quality records to ensure:
- Correct document structure and partitioning
- Consistency between records inspections and manufacturing activities
- Compliance with applicable standards (e.g. ISO 9001 ISO 19443 ISO 3834 EN 10204).
- Perform sample and correctness checks on:
- Welding and fabrication records
- LTQR metadata and document references in project systems (e.g. Teamcenter).
- Identify deviations gaps or quality risks and clearly communicate findings to QMLs and suppliers.
3. Supplier & Project Support
- Support QMLs in driving suppliers to deliver Right First Time On Time quality records.
- Participate in in-factory or site-based review of records compilation particularly for welding-intensive scopes (as instructed by the project).
- Support the review of:
- Supplier partitioning strategies
- Progressive delivery of LTQRs and forecast dates.
- Assist suppliers when requested with understanding and applying LTQR and welding record requirements.
Quality Oversight & Continuous Improvement
- Use quality and welding expertise to:
- Highlight recurring issues in welding documentation and record quality
- Support lessons learned and improvement actions.
- Input to quality metrics and trackers related to:
- LTQR completeness
- Record quality and backlog
- Rework caused by record errors or omissions.
- Support quality audits and surveillance activities related to quality records and welding documentation when assigned.
Qualifications :
Knowledge Skills & Experience
Essential Requirements
- Experience in a quality records quality engineering or quality assurance role within a regulated industry (nuclear energy oil & gas heavy fabrication or similar).
- Strong understanding of quality records and lifetime record requirements.
- Practical knowledge of welding and fabrication documentation including inspection and NDT records.
- Experience reviewing supplier documentation for completeness and compliance.
- High attention to detail and ability to identify documentation gaps and inconsistencies.
Qualifications & Technical Expertise
- Engineering apprenticeship or ONC/HNC (or higher) in an engineering discipline.
- Welding-related qualification such as CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2
- Knowledge of standards including:
- ISO 9001
- ISO 19443
- ISO 3834
- EN 10204
- Quality qualification or CQI membership (desirable).
- NDT qualifications (UT RT MPI DPI) advantageous.
Personal Attributes
- Methodical organised and detail-focused.
- Confident working within a client-embedded role.
- Able to communicate clearly with suppliers and project stakeholders.
- Comfortable working to tight deadlines and managing multiple record reviews.
- Strong commitment to quality compliance and nuclear safety culture.
Additional Information :
As this is a front-line site delivery role there is a necessity to work flexibility working under the time pressure of the schedule in order to unblock technical issues to allow continuity of work by the installation teams.
