What Health System Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health
Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Healths pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals hospital retail customers ambulatory care and alternate site facilities oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.

Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals health systems and other integrated healthcare providers may also consult with and advise healthcare team on prescribed medications supplies and related processes.

Job Summary

Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital a 320-bed inpatient psychiatric facility located in Worcester Massachusetts is the largest inpatient psychiatric facility overseen by the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital incorporates an innovative design to provide a state-of-the-art environment for patients and staff. Pharmacy services are provided to WRCH by Cardinal Health in partnership with the Massachusetts State Office for Pharmacy Services (MSOPS).

Reporting to the Clinical Operations Manager or designee this pharmacy technician is responsible for supporting the operational component of pharmacy services. The primary responsibilities will be restocking automated dispensing cabinets (Omnicell) and the maintenance and distribution of pharmaceutical inventory at Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital.

This part-time pharmacy technician will work Monday - Friday 10:00am - 2:00pm and pick up additional coverage as needed. The pharmacy operations at this site currently take place Monday - Friday 8:00am 4:30pm.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies receipt of medication deliveries at the site(s) and reviews for accuracy.

  • Demonstrates competency in the use of automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs).

  • Maintains pharmacy inventory through filling/refilling the ADCs anticipates needed medications and supplies and communicates with the site-based pharmacists and/or the centralized Pharmacy Distribution Center (PDC) regarding any medication stock changes or needs.

  • Accurately loads medications from restock lists into ADCs.

  • Empties and reconciles contents of ADC return bins.

  • Ensures that look-alike sound-alike medications are segregated in ADCs.

  • Accurately loads new inventory items and removes items deleted from inventory in ADCs.

  • Monitors ADC stock-outs and resolves in a timely manner.

  • Reports automated dispensing equipment issues promptly to the System Automation Technician.

  • Coordinates with and escorts ADC company service technician when onsite service is necessary.

  • Monitors medication supply for outdates and rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date.

  • Performs medication room/unit inspections and communicates results with site-based pharmacists and the PDC Director of Pharmacy.

  • Assists the System Automation Technician with review of current par levels at the site(s) and assists with implementation of par level and/or stock changes.

  • Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately as applicable.

  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings in-services and quality improvement programs as required.

  • Completes timely and maintains all required training and education per department requirements (e.g. MySpark MyLearning Continuing Education).

  • Adheres to hospital and departmental policies procedures and with all requirements related to risk management safety security fire and infection with all applicable state local and federal regulations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalentpreferred.

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician in the Commonwealth of MAin good standing required.

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or PTCB) preferred.

  • Previous experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital pharmacy setting preferred.

  • Experience with automated dispensing cabinet technology preferred (Omnicell preferred).

  • Effective interpersonal skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of Commonwealth of Massachusetts pharmacy law when ordering and handling medications.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel preferred.

  • Must have a good working knowledge of generic and trade names of medications.

  • May require vendor credentialing.

Anticipated hourly range:$21.20 per hour - $27.18 per hour.
