Elk Island Public Schools is recruiting a temporary full-time Cafeteria Assistant at Campus EIPS working within Bev Facey Community High.

We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Cafe Assistant to support our student-run school cafe. This role focuses primarily on serving beveragesincluding smoothies coffee and specialty drinksand selling pre-prepared food items created through our Culinary Arts program. Minimal food preparation is required. Responsibilities include operating blenders and coffee equipment maintaining food safety and cleanliness standards supporting inventory and providing excellent customer service. The successful candidate will also supervise and support students participating in work experience placements helping them develop workplace and customer service skills in a safe inclusive environment.

Bev Facey Community High serves approximately 1080 students in grades 10 to 12 with 58 teaching staff and 20 support staff. The school is located in Sherwood Park AB.

Campus EIPS Collegiate Pathways are career-focused education programs designed to provide students with real-world skills and post-secondary opportunities while still in high school. Through hands-on learning industry partnerships and dual-credit options students gain valuable experience certifications and a competitive edge in preparing for careers employment apprenticeships and post-secondary education.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Cafeteria Attendant is responsible for assisting in the kitchen and cafeteria areas and helps to ensure safe respectful and efficient operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Kitchen Cafeteria & Cafe Support

  • Assist kitchen staff to complete tasks as follows.

o Prepare breakfast and lunch items

o Wash and peel vegetables and fruit

o Wash worktables cupboards and appliances

o Wash dishes and clean the kitchen cafeteria and café areas and

o May assist with emptying kitchen garbage containers.

  • Help with ordering and preparing groceries and kitchen supplies.
  • Help unpack store and rotate food and related stock items.
  • Assist in ensuring safety and compliance with health regulations.
  • Ensure the laundry is cleaned throughout the day.
  • Assist in organization and cleaning of storeroom fridge freezers and other areas.
  • Sweep and mop floors and perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup of displays information areas and work areas.
  • Operate the cash register in the cafe and in the cafeteria as needed.
  • Supervise the cafe area and if needed may assist in the cafeteria

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year related experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Food Safe Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience in food service/hospitality or working with youth is preferred
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work positively with youth
  • This position supports student leadership hands-on learning and a welcoming and inclusive school community

  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques and materials.
  • Strong speaking and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work with teams and assist students.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-tasking and at times stressful environment.
  • Strong organization problem solving and time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to change and frequent interruptions.
