Purpose: The Maintenance Worker (Painting Emphasis) maintains school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities with primary responsibility for interior and exterior painting and surface preparation. To accomplish these tasks the Maintenance Worker must work closely with the staff and administration of Seaman Schools. This is a 12 month position

Starting Hourly Rate: $18.50
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in painting and general building maintenance preferred.
- Knowledge of painting techniques surface preparation and finishing methods.
- Knowledge of basic maintenance systems.
- Valid Kansas drivers license.
Essential Functions:
- Knowledge Skill and Abilities
- Maintain school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities with emphasis on painting and finishing work.
- Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping sanding washing filling caulking masking and priming.
- Apply paint stain varnish enamel and other finishes using brushes rollers and spray equipment.
- Mix and match paints and finishes to achieve desired colors and finishes.
- Remove and/or cover graffiti and vandalism in a timely manner.
- Inspect facilities to identify painting and general maintenance needs.
- Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary for painting and maintenance work including sprayers lifts ladders scaffolding and power tools.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Comply with all district policies rules and regulations.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move lift carry pull or push heavy objects or materials.
- Requires stooping kneeling crawling bending turning and reaching.
- Requires climbing and balancing including use of ladders and scaffolding.
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Must be able to work in and around dust paint fumes chemicals and odors.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
General Responsibilities:

- Maintain a high standard of safety cleanliness and efficiency in all painting and maintenance projects.
- Assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition.
- Assist in promoting the safety health and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.
- Perform general maintenance repair and installation tasks as assigned.
- Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.
- Assist in snow removal from school district building walkways entrances and parking areas as needed.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
- Other duties as assigned by the maintenance supervisor which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position.
