The Division of Oncology in the Department of Medicine is recruiting for hospitalists internists or general practitioners in oncology for an opportunity to join the division supporting inpatient oncology care. Our Oncology Unit is located at Brampton Civic Hospital and has 23 dedicated addition to inpatient management of complications of malignancy or treatment we provide inpatient chemotherapy and manage patients post autologous stem cell transplantation in which standardized protocols have been created. Our Oncology Unit is supported by a full-time nurse practitioner that has expertise in managing complex patients with solid tumours and hematologic malignancies. Additional supports include palliative care allied health and access to radiation oncology. Back up subspecialist support from medical oncology will be available when needed.
Accountabilities:
- Most responsible physician for patients admitted to the inpatient oncology ward
- Work as a team with a full-time nurse practitioner along with allied health team
- Responsible for first consultation from the Emergency Department
- Develop niche training in oncology and opportunities to develop procedural skills if interested including bone marrow biopsies intrathecal chemotherapy and paracentesis
- Weekly educational rounds and access to research infrastructure
- Potential to expand to outpatient services
About the Program
The Oncology program sees over 2500 new oncology consults annually and provides care for patients at the Brampton Civic Hospital and Etobicoke General Hospital with a satellite centre for systemic therapy delivery at Headwaters Health Care Centre. The program sees a wide variety of solid tumours and hematologic malignancies supported by 16 hematologists/oncologists.
Qualifications :
- Accredited medical degree (or equivalent)
- Certificate of registration to practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and hold either a Fellowship in Internal Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or College of Family Physicians
- Additional oncology exposure will be an asset but is not a requirement
- License to practice and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Sound critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Proven track record of attendance punctuality and accountability
- Models behaviour that aligns with Oslers Values of Respect Excellence Service Compassion Innovation and Collaboration
- Expertise in clinical teaching or clinical research preferred for those interested in education or research
