POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Dock Coordinator is the heartbeat of the warehouse floor. This role is responsible for the systematic flow of all inbound and outbound shipments ensuring that the right carriers/loads are at the right doors at the right time. You will serve as the primary point of contact between drivers warehouse personnel and the office to maintain a safe organized and efficient yard and dock area.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Documentation & Compliance: Verify manifests and laydown sheets for accuracy. Ensure all driver logs and safety checklists are completed before departure.
- Make sure all the TMC are distributed by Thursday each week. Find locations for any left in the back.
- Deliver papers to the Aiken Post office
- Keep up with the vans and forklift maintenance checklist and cleanliness
- Inventory Coordination: Communicate with carriers and dock worker.
- Communicate with Single Copy Manager on any rack repairs store questions from drivers carrier bag count and any problems with paperwork.
- Get things ready for any events that need to use the van.
- System Management: use Newzware and Teams
- Organize and maintain the warehouses and circulation staging area.
- Safety & Security: Enforce dock safety protocols (e.g. trailer chalking glad-hand locks and PPE requirements). Inspect trailers for damage or debris before loading.
- Problem Solving: Resolve scheduling conflicts late arrivals or OS&D (Over Short and Damaged) issues in real-time.
- Run down routes
- Other duties as assigned by management
- Manage the Dock Worker and Contractors
Requirements minimum education level and experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Six months related experience
- Must be able to transport newsprint materials weighing 30 to 50 pounds and push loaded warehouse carts weighing up to 750 pounds
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Must have excellent attendance and punctuality record
- Must be flexible regarding work schedule (nights and weekends)
- Able to interact with people in a professional manner
- Adhere to department safety policies and practices
- Must have drivers license
Physical Requirements Work Environment and Travel:
- Ability to stand walk reach with hands and arms bend and stoop perform moderate lifting (30 50 pounds) and pushing carts weighing up to 750 pounds.
- This worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions which may provide protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
