A well-established award-winning civil engineering and transport planning consultancy is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join its growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Principal engineer to take a leading role in delivering a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects within a supportive and skilled team.
The Opportunity
The successful candidate will be a key member of the civil engineering design team responsible for delivering drainage strategies highway layouts and Section 278/38 schemes. The role involves close collaboration with developers architects and local authorities alongside attendance at both in-person and virtual project meetings.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the design and delivery of drainage systems in accordance with Sewers for Adoption Building Regulations and the SuDS Manual
- Designing on- and off-site highway works in line with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and Manual for Streets
- Managing project resources overseeing technical outputs and ensuring quality standards are met
- Preparing and reviewing technical documentation including Flood Risk Assessments
- Acting as a primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders
- Mentoring supporting and line managing junior engineers including appraisals and identifying training needs
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years consultancy experience in civil engineering
- Degree or HND in Civil Engineering
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards professional accreditation with the Institution of Civil Engineers
- Strong experience in drainage design including SuDS
- Proficient in InfoDrainage Causeway Flow or MicroDrainage
- Experience producing technical reports including Flood Risk Assessments
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Site 3D (or equivalent 3D modelling software)
- Demonstrable project management experience across drainage highways and external works schemes
- Experience managing client relationships and representing an organisation at project meetings
Desirable
- Highways design experience including S278 and S38 agreements
- Experience delivering development-led infrastructure projects
- Fee proposal preparation experience
- Involvement in projects across the full planning lifecycle (pre-application to condition discharge)
- Business development exposure
- Previous line management experience
